Defensive end Jomarcus Savage from J.O. Johnson High School in Huntsville, Ala., will announce his college decision at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Savage said he will choose between Tennessee and Auburn at a press conference at his high school.
The 6-foot-2, 260-pound Savage is a high priority for UT’s 2008 signing class. The Vols lost two senior starters at defensive end, Xavier Mitchell and Antonio Reynolds, from last year's team.
“The defensive end spot is so thin … and their rotation is not even like it usually is,” Savage told The News Sentinel last week.
Savage took an official visit to UT on Jan. 18 and Auburn on Jan. 11.

C'mon, big fella...we want you at UT and we need you at UT.
Vol fans, we need some good news and this'd be a huge coup for us...

Dude is gonna wear the orange next year. Dropping Miss State was the big step for UT, cause his brother played for them. He shows alot of interest in UT. Came away loving it. Slight chance he gets swayed, but he'll be a Vol. He wants that early PT.

This would be a HUGE pickup!! Jomarcus Savage come on do(UP??)wn!! LOL We really need him!!

Fulmer is known for closing strong and we sure do need that to happen now. Stealing a highly regarded recruit from the state of Ala-dad-gom-bama would also sweeten the spoils.

This guy could help thicken the thin defensive end spot. Get him and a few more may follow.

This dude is not gonna be a DE. Too big, he will be a DT his FR season.

Willie Bohannon has defected from KY to the Vols. Good move, young man. You'll look back in 4 years and be glad you made that decision. Let's close strong!

sphs_vol:
Your getting me excited for this last week in recruiting but I find it hard to believe that some of these guys are going to be randomly leaving other schools for the Vols. I see us finishing strong but I think you are going a little overboard. Bring em in Fulmer! Eight days and counting!

Auburn or Knoxville; as an 18 year old, you be the judge!

I sure hope you are right, but you mentioned a you 10 QB. I really dont see any top 10 QB's that were really considering us. Kelly a possibility, but the only other QB that had us high was EJ Manuel and he seems like a solid verbal to FSU.

go VOLS!

Well Manuel is from VA same as our new offensive coaches. Maybe he liked the coaches when they were there but did not like the school???

utmdm 1:02 a.m., you having trouble sleeping, my man? I barely lasted thru the win over Dook.
I know very little actual info on recruits, just know we need defense. I confess to using who else is after them as a somewhat accurate barometer of their potential. Fingers crossed.

Curt Phillips is another name being tossed around a little. Great size, speed, and arm. He's from Tn but committed to Wisconsin awhile back because he supposedly didn't fit the scheme... exactly what differences Wis and UT look for I'm not sure.
EJ Manuel is the only other top 10 QB that's ever shown any interest in UT. He is from Virginia which plays into sphs' conspiracy pretty nicely.
OTOH, there's little reason to believe a top rated QB would come to UT to sit behind JC then BJ.
Your game would have been much better sphs if you hadn't throw this particular claim in.
Posted by sjt18 on January 29, 2008 at 9:48 a.m. (Suggest removal)
If UT gets 3-4 more 4* players and can manage to get Davis, they'll probably make the top 20.
Without Davis, they could make the top 25 if they sign 23-24 players.
If you throw in Morley and Warren, that would be close to a top 10 class.
There's a nice article on ESPN about Poole. They compare him favorably to Cadillac Williams and think he may have been a steal. They raved about his vision and ability to break tackles. They said something to the effect that he was pound for pound one of the most powerful runners in the class.
I personally like shorter RB's. They seem to always have better balance and cutting ability. He's 5'10" 200. He's reputed to be a gym rat and is an honor roll student.
It was also reported that before injuring an ankle Poole was poised to be rated one of the top RB's in the country.

sphs_vol, OK..you talk about a top 10 QB committing to the Vols....who is a top 10 and who has committed....maybe that will narrow things down a little.
Anyone have the top 10 QB list and who has committed?
Posted by marc_ash on January 29, 2008 at 11:10 a.m. (Suggest removal)
well, according to my research there aren't any top 10 pro style QB's left that haven't already committed. ARe you saying that a top 10 QB will defect sphs_vol? http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/...
As for duel threat, there is Pryor (won't get him), B.J. Daniels and Randall Mackey (but he is at 11)....none of which has the Vols on their list.
http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/...
Maybe Manual defects from Fl State and becomes a Vol...thats all I can guess.

Looks like Kelly enjoyed his visit to Rocky Top this past week...may be the top 10 QB sph_ was referring to. A quote from a recent Rivals article:
"Sarasota, Florida quarterback, Casey Kelly is Tennessee's one and only option at obtaining the services of a signal caller this recruiting season. Kelly was in Knoxville over the weekend and left town with a very tough decision to make. Will it be baseball at Arizona State or football and baseball at Tennessee?"

Anyone have any word on Jerrell Harris?
SJT, you got anything?
Posted by marc_ash on January 29, 2008 at 11:23 a.m. (Suggest removal)
Yes. Savage is supposed to announce at a 10:30 news conference...that is Bama time and should be Central I believe. 9 more minutes on the fate of Savage folks.
Not that this means anything, but Rivals has Auburn already isolated on his page for paid subscribers. Hope this isn't a sign that Tiger fans will get a big article on his committment.
I still think he's a Tiger....I've never wanted to be more wrong in my life.

Who is Jerell Harris?

I haven't seen anything solid on Harris. He supposedly likes UT. UT supposedly likes him. There doesn't seem to be any info about him visiting or anything so I really don't know.

marc, Manuel and Phillips are the only two QB's I see that are even remote possibilities. The effort made to recruit Kelly also weighs against the idea that they have a top ranked QB as a secret flip.
I think sphs is trying to play folks here for fools.

Hope auburn is being too optimistic but .......

I hope for Auburn's sake that the coach wasn't commenting directly to the radio station because that would be an NCAA violation. And, I would really hate that for big ears.

I see Kelly going to play baseball with family members already in the MLB and he is a projected 1st 2nd round pick in the baseball draft. I believe that sphs is talking about Kurt Phillips who didnt really get alot of interest from TN at first and he committed to Wis where his father played. If Fulmer started showing interest in this Tebow like player then he could be seriously showing interest back since he is from East Tennessee.
Posted by sjt18 on January 29, 2008 at 2:14 p.m. (Suggest removal)
volfan, I read that it was really Cut that wasn't high on Phillips but that Clawson might be.
sphs said that the flips would come from the ACC or SEC... not the Big 10.
I'd love to see EJ Manuel in orange. He sounds like a just slightly slower version of Pryor but maybe with a better arm. Recent history of FSU wasting guys like Xavier Lee should help.

VolCR has corrected my info on Phillips. He/she/it says that Phillips was an early enrollee at Wisconsin. He is no longer a possibility.

utmdm 11:54 -How's mom doing?
Harris is , errr, uh, a prospect. Some are suspect prospects. None are bona-fide DT prospects but quasi-suspect. Boy howdy, we'll take 'em. We need them. D-line is where the rubber meets the road or not as we saw in 2007. Doldrum spikes will end soon.
Who'll be 2008 SEC champions? Beat Bama.

I think he was asking for a little more than that on Harris but I don't have access right now and don't remember the details.

Just remember, Nick Stephens was a #10 QB, a couple of years ago. We are deep at QB, and we really can find someone from out of the mix we already have. We'd be better off finding a deep threat, and OL & DL that can come in and play! Go Vols! SAVol

I work with a man in Alabama whose son is friends with Savage. He will be wearing orange and white this fall. Another great recruit for the big Orange!

Welcome 8080... Hope you didn't mess up by putting your credibility on the line with a positive statement. Since you are new here... be warned. Any comment inconsistent with the gloom and doom of a few very vocal critics will draw labels of "kool-aid drinker", "fulmerite", "fulmoron", and other childish things.
Hope you are right either way. This guy looks like a nice pick up.

-------------------------------
Sorry for my error as I was typing too quickly during lunch hour. The coach did not make the statement. It was someone close to the program (beat writer or a columnist in auburn) stating the coaches are confident he will commit to auburn.
I hope that is incorrec and 8080 is correct but....
