Tennessee's hold on J.T. Floyd seems to be tenuous at best.
Floyd committed to play football for UT in September 2006 but admitted at the time that he planned on exploring other options. Floyd did so, taking official visits to Georgia Tech, N.C. State and Michigan before his official to UT last weekend.
Floyd certainly seemed to enjoy his trip to Ann Arbor, according to an Internet report last week.
“I would definitely say Michigan fans will be happy, but I'm going to leave it at that," the 5-11, 180-pound athlete from J.L. Mann High School in Greenville, S.C. told thewolverine.com. "I want to talk it over with my parents first, take this last visit and get everything squared away."
Floyd hasn’t answered nor returned several calls from the News Sentinel.

I've seen him play several times at the school just up the street from where I live. He wants to just keep his name in the news. The coaching staff shouldn't be wasting their time with this boy. There are a dozen more just like him still available.

I concur, just a kid wanting some attention. I've seen this guy listed as having a 4.75 40. I hope thats a typo, or this guy had a broken leg on combine day. Maybe they want him to play scout team against all of these recruits that sphs_vol is saying are gonna come. sphs_vol, so far, so good, I still won't sleep until Feb. 6 since you posted the signing day coup info.

I saw it on Rivals but his forty can't be right. I ran a 4.6 in school as a wideout and couldn't get a look from anything resembling division one... let alone UT.

I'm sure the Michigan fans are on the edge of their seats this morning waiting for this news.

the bohannon kid and prentiss waggner both commited to the VOLS last night...After going 44 days without a commitment Tennessee broke through with four commitments in three days and the talent haul is decisively defensive. Following linebacker/defensive end Marlon Walls and defensive tackle Montori Hughes, are defensive end Willie Bohannon and defensive back Prentiss Waggner bringing UT’s total to 14 commitments. However a couple of those are shaky as defensive end Steven Fowlkes and defensive back J.T. Floyd are rethinking their commitments. Fowkles, the nation’s No. 29 DE is expected to choose between Tennessee and Arkansas. Floyd, No. 74 ranked safety has also visited Michigan and Georgia Tech and is expected to choose between the Vols and Wolverines. If the Vols are anticipating losing one or both of those prospects they may have seen Waggner and Bohannon as quality fall back choices, despite the fact Waggner appears to be more of a cover corner while Bohannon, 6-3, 240, could easily grow into a tackle or develop into a linebacker. That diversity made him a good addition for UT.Bohannon, a three-star prospect from Prichard, Ala. is rated the nation’s No. 83 defensive end by Scout. He originally committed to Kentucky but reconsidered. He visited UT last weekend and made his decision to commit to the Vols and cancel his upcoming visit to Oxford.
"I am going to call everybody else tomorrow, but I wanted you to know that I committed to Tennessee last night,"Bohannon told Scout.com’s Andrew Bone. "The coaches are really excited."
Bohannon credited UT’s facilities, success with developing D-linemen and family atmosphere with being key factors in his defection from Kentucky.
“Coach Fulmer came down here last Thursday before my visit,” he said in the same interview. “I saw him a lot during my official visit. He was telling me how they would use me and how they need me. He talked about the atmosphere.“It’s a family atmosphere up there. I like the players. They are diverse. They have people from everywhere go there. Everyone who goes there is a top prospect. Right now it’s looking really nice.” At 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, Waggner has good size for a cover corner and outstanding 4.50 speed. He enjoyed a big junior season for Clinton High School, recording 70 tackles, intercepting 16 passes and breaking up 14. He also played wide receiver, catching 31 passes for 750 yards and 13 touchdowns. He earned first team Class-2A All-State honors and was named Class-2A Defensive MVP. Waggner made 2A All-State as a senior with nine INTs, 10 pass breakups and 33 tackles during the regular season, and also had over 750 receiving yards and 13 TDs on offense.Waggner chose Tennessee over offers from Auburn, Minnesota, North Carolina,

Supposedly his 40 times are accurate, he is likely to be a strong safety/linebacker type in school. Personally I would rather him go to Michigan than UT. I think he fits the Big 11 better than the SEC.

I've heard that Fowlkes wavering is overstated. The guy I've seen be most accurate with recruiting says he's definitely still a Vol.

Guys if he does not BLEED ORANGE let him go! He can go North and get cold with the rest of the wolverines!! I only want players that will, as Gen. Neyland said, "...give their ALL for Tennessee..."!!
If they can't live up to that move on and let's find some future Tennessee jewels! Remember jewels are found in the deep NOT on the surface...I hope our coaches just find the best jewels in the raw that others overlook and prepare them to "shine" as Champions with an ORANGE HEART!!
Where is the next Peyton Manning, Little Man Stewart, PEERLESS PRICE?? Let's find them and remember ..... GO VOLS!!

Later, J.T.
You might want to give some thought to the relative advantages of down parkas over Microtemp, Thermacheck, Polartek, etc. A nice pair of insulated boots might come in handy, too.

sphs is right about Floyd. I've not seen anyone who follows recruiting closely that was excited about this guy. The coaches may well have cooled on him as well. They got his commit early and I'm sure they didn't want to renege... but that doesn't mean they've been pushing real hard.

I've been to Michigan Stadium a bunch of times, and I've seen their facilities. They're nice, and Michigan deserves respect for that. But I'd take Tennessee's any day of the week.

Guys... it gets cold in Michigan... but it isn't in the Arctic. They play very, very few real cold weather games.

Floyd is a good ball player. I've seen him play, he has good speed, and would do a good job returning kicks for us. Since I am from SC I would love to see him in ORANGE. I am just glad that he did'nt decide to go to Clemson or South Carolina. Just hope he stays the course and goes to UT.
GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!!!

Michigan is the winningest program in NCAA history and they just beat Florida in a New Years Bowl. Enough said.

Wonder if Coach Pearl has been talking to QB Pryor and offered him the opportunity to play both sports. They say he is also a very good basketball player. Hopefully this could be the so called BIG SURPRISE

That's absolutely true VolCR. Plus Wilks may be a DB rather than WR and UT may take another DB/Ath type in this class that is better than Floyd.

You didn't mention Maples. If he ever plays it will probably be as a DB. His measurables are better than Floyd's.

YEMMUS THAT WAS GREAT
FLOYD IS A D-BAG SAYING MICHIGAN FANS WILL BE HAPPY, WHY? BECAUSE THE 74TH BEST DB PROSPECT WILL REDSHIRT NEXT YEAR AND PLAY IN 10'?

HAHAHA that's great, well said ATLVOL1! This kid is flaunting himself around like he's Deion Sanders, or better yet, Eric Berry. If he does come to UT, I hope that Berry serves him a slice of humble pie in the spring.

stj18-I beg to differ on Wilks. I live in Nashville and have seen Wilks play. I thought who is this guy and when I saw him play, he is a legit WR. He isn't Mr. Football for nothing and I can see him as a potential game breaker, you'll see.

Sorry about that typo sjt18...

I hope so jhayes. I think we still lack that game breaker at wide out. We have some talent in kenny oneal etc but nobody really proven.
I guess lucas taylor can go deep. Rogers and others are more possession receivers. IF we can just go deep next year and open the field then foster, hardesty can have some big games.

Go to Michigan, play one meaningful game a year (and lose), play in a crappy bowl. Hope you enjoy these next 4 years JT; I mean 5, seeing as you'll redshirt and all

jhayes, thanks for the info. I was just passing along something I'd seen elsewhere from a usually reliable source.
I hope he IS that good. The Bell kid from Fl that UT dropped to get Wilks was a 4 years starter in one of the higher classifications of FL HS football. That would definitely seem to indicate that UT thought alot of Wilks.

Vol1994, according to what I've read, Jones, Moore, and Paige are the guys who can become deep threats... especially Paige.
I would love to see O'Neal completely reverse last year but if he can't learn the plays, learn the reads, run the routes correctly, run the correct routes, catch the ball, and hold onto the ball... He can't help much.

sjt18-9:28- Are you suggesting O'Neal needs some work? A little polishing, perchance.
Posted by sjt18 on January 30, 2008 at 10:54 a.m. (Suggest removal)
I'm suggesting that at this point he looks like a massive bust. I'd like to hold out hope that he'll get it together but what are the odds?
