Parker named finalist for Naismith

Tennessee junior forward Candace Parker, a two-time All-American, has been named one of 31 finalists for the Naismith Trophy.

Parker was a finalist last season and a two-time Naismith National High School player of the year award winner (2003, 2004).

The 6-foot-5 junior is averaging 20.8 points and 8.6 rebounds for the No. 2-ranked Lady Vols (18-1).

Some other high-profile players making the mid-season cut include: LSU’s Sylvia Fowles, Auburn’s DeWanna Bonner, Georgia’s Tasha Humphrey, UConn’s Maya Moore, Oklahoma’s Courtney Paris, Duke’s Chante Black and MTSU’s Amber Holt.

Meanwhile, Angie Bjorklund was selected SEC Freshman of the week.

She hit seven 3-pointers to tie a UT record and score 29 points in a victory against Arkansas. Bjorklund scored 13 points in the Lady Vols’ 67-64 at Duke on Monday night.

It was the fourth time this season Bjorklund has won the SEC honor. Parker won the Freshman of the Week five times during her rookie campaign.

Warning--VolCR is off his medication--again.

It is amazing what Candace is doing considering the way she is pounded from start to finish of every game. We need Vicky Baugh to have a couple more games like her performance at Duke. Candace (nobody) can play against three defenders every time she touches the ball.

I think this falls under the "duh" category.

and Uconnfan: lazy player.... best player in the women's game..... it's whatever.

you do realize there are white supremacists all over America right? racism isn't centralized in the south... neither is violence or whatever else you want to bring up. i guess up north they don't post on other team's articles or websites either, huh? specifically teams with more national championships than your own?

Does UconnFan get off on bashing? Is is gvx only, or does it roam around on other sites spewing its narcissistic blabber? Why would it watch LV games enough to even know player's names? Me thinks it really wants to be orange.

UconnFan is upset because there coach is second rate coach. Nobody will win as many games as Pat. Nor will there coach win as many National Championships as Pat. I'm glad to be a VOL. Don't care for those poeple from the north.
GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!

It's amazing to me that CP3 is mauled mercilessly without getting the whistle. Could it be that the officials are watching what Candace does and missing what clawing, scratching and shoving is being done to her? Do you see it that way? Albeit, CP3 is not spelled t e n a c i o u s. If she were, as Anosiki is, I think the defense would not be so eager to come at her. I would like to see her (Candace) get tougher. I am so thankful she is wearing orange. I would not be seeing these flaws if she wore the colors of opposition. Pat said she was pleased with our passing game, however she would like to see fewer turnovers. That would be an area of emphasis in my opinion also. Some ugly fan of another team called us Sloppy Top. I have to agree with that, but it sounds awful coming from that poster. I know CP3 is not lazy. It's just that she is so very talented, I expect her to be near perfect. I thought Mique was close to perfect at times in her 3rd season. There were times when she simply could not score. Still she was so smooth. I don't know why, but Bjorkland reminds me of Kelly Jolly with her demeanor. Can you tell I am missing that team, even now?
