great recognition for Coach Pearl. I admire his commitment to faith as much as his coaching ability. He obviously has a passion for both.

I was watching the UT-Bama game with a friend the other night (he's an Ole Miss fan) and he kept going on and on about the "black coach". I thought he was talking about an assistant or someone else but no, he thought Bruce Pearl was black. Took me the rest of the game to convince him that "Jewish" is not just a religion but is also a race. That led me to do a Google search and I found that fans of other schools have had the same discussion in their forums. Needless to say the actual discussion in those forums was not always held to the highest standards of decency...
FYI this is the same friend that was (against his will) part of the famous "Cutcliffe Debates", as recorded here:

shoalcreek: Well stupid me. I'm thinking Judaism IS A RELIGION, NOT a race.

I wasn't intending to get into this but "Judaism" is both a religion and an ethnicity. That makes it unique among most races and religions. I'm not Jewish, but a Jewish man did die for me once so I've studied his life story a little (as you may also have done).
If you are a Christian or have ever studied the Christian bible (especially the New Testament), you'll notice a lot of discussion of "Jewish Christians" in the first century. These were people who were Jewish by race and religion, but changed their religion to Christianity. After they became Christians by religion they were still Jews by race. They were joined by Greek Christians and then eventually Christians from all over the world as it existed at that time.
I'm not writing this to start a big religious discussion, just pointing out that the existence of both the Jewish race and the Jewish religion was illustrated in the Bible, as it still is all over the world today. Hope that clarifies.

Beat MSU with our Jewish coach. Who cares. I like him and I'm a back-sliding (big group) Methodist.

Your comment is offensive to every Jewish person who follows his or her faith and keeps kosher.

Jewish, Christian, whatever. Pearl is a great guy and a very good coach. He has represented the university very well, fitting right in with the leaders of the sports money-makers at UT, namely Summitt and Fulmer.
He better hope he never has a season that the idiot posters to this site consider subpar. If he does, the resident basketball geniuses (and they know who they are) will come up with something briliaint (to their thinking) like "Pound the matzoh ball".

"Idiot posters"...I resemble that remark!
