Vols to face Marquette in the SEC/Big East Invitational

Tennessee has another men's basketball date in Nashville next season when the Vols meet Marquette in the SEC/Big East Invitational.

Tennessee will play Marquette in a Dec. 16 doubleheader at the Sommet Center. Vanderbilt meets South Florida in the other game.

Meanwhile, the other SEC/Big East installment will be Dec. 18 in Cincinnati at U.S. Bank Arena. Cincinnati will play Mississippi State and Louisville will face Ole Miss.

The games will be televised by ESPN and ESPN2.

The 2008-09 season will be the second of a three-year arrangement between the two conferences.

Earlier this year, the series began with doubleheaders in Philadelphia and Birmingham.

In Philadelphia, South Carolina beat Providence and LSU blew a 21-point lead and lost to Villanova.

In Birmingham, Georgetown beat Alabama and West Virginia beat Auburn.

Agreed, KptVol, but it looks like the SEC needs some help in this series. We should be able to help get the conference back on the right foot with this matchup.

I wonder how step-brother is going to feel when we go into their home city and they are the undercard and we are the main attraction?

One thing you gotta love about Bruce is that he stacks his schedule with quality opponents. This gives us experience before the tournament and it looks good from the perspective of the NCAA seeding committee.

Kingsport, ditto my man.

As a Nashvillian, I sure appreciate Coach Pearl providing a convenient opportunity for middle Tennesseans to see the big orange. I haven't missed a chance yet to see them play in Nashville (Murray St., Oklahoma St. and Western Ky). The crowds are growing for UT games in Nashville each year. The win last season against OK State with the Bradshaw last second tip in was classic. It's got to help recruiting around the state too. When we whip Memphis again this year, the recruiting pipeline will be solidified. Go Vols!

Man this is great. I am moving to the Northeast in a few months and this may give me the opp. to see the Vols play in person up there

This is great! I love watching the Big Orange in Nashville. I can watch the Vols beat Marquette and then maybe I will stay and watch South Florida beat vandy.

What we ought to do is just split the tickets with Memphis out there in their arena and call it a neutral court....

Bring it!

Go VOls

Touchdown,

Calipari already whines enough about us once a year. He would never go for a home and home. I believe that he is actually the one who shot down the neutral site game in Nashville. He knows that playing in Nashville would essentially mean a home game for UT.

utchris,

Actually Calipari wants to play EVERY year in Nashville, because he wants to keep Pearl out of Memphis.

Keep running scared Slick Willie...errr....Calipari

Seriously....could Calipari be any more of a used car salesman?

though i do love what pearl has done with the schedule (ohio state, gonzaga, ok state, texas, memphis, kansas next year) you have to remember this wasn't his doing. ESPN chooses who plays who in these games. it came out about 2 months ago we were playing marquette we just didn't know where.
