Candace Parker, Pat Summitt and the Tennessee Lady Vols earned a total of four ESPY nominations Tuesday.
Parker, who led the Lady Vols to their second consecutive national championship this past season, picked up two of the nominations. Parker, golfer Lorena Ochoa, IndyCar driver Danica Patrick and skier Lindsey Vonn are the finalists for best female athlete. Parker is also a finalist for best female college athlete along with softball pitcher Angela Tincher of Virginia Tech and Rachel Dawson of North Carolina, the national player of the year in field hockey.
Summitt, who won her eighth national title with the Lady Vols, is nominated for best coach/manager along with Terry Francona of the Boston Red Sox, Tom Coughlin of the New York Giants and Doc Rivers of the Boston Celtics.
The Lady Vols, Red Sox, Giants, Celtics, Detroit Red Wings and Kansas men’s basketball were nominated for best team.
The sports awards show will air July 20 on ESPN.
Fans determine the winners in 37 categories by voting online or with mobile phones.
