Fordham picks South Carolina over UT

Defensive end Aldrick Fordham from Timberland High School in St. Stephen, S.C., has committed to South Carolina over Tennessee.

South Carolina became the favorite to land Fordham when the Gamecocks offered him a scholarship on June 9.

“It’s the childhood team I grew up rooting for,” Fordham said. “It’s the team I always pulled for and it’s real close to home.”

Fordham said as recently as last week that he planned to visit UT and South Carolina this summer before deciding.

That plan changed when Fordham realized South Carolina would be his ultimate choice.

“That’s one less thing I have to think about going into my senior year,” the 6-foot-4, 235-pounder said. “That feels good.”

Fordham said he likes the different ways South Carolina’s coaches plan to use him on defense.

“They move players around a lot,” Fordham said. “I’m not a real big person and I can use my quickness by moving around.”

Fordham is the second defensive linemen in as many days to choose another school over UT.

Josh Boyd from Philadelphia (Miss.) High School committed to Mississippi State on Tuesday.

Way to go Chavis...nevermind, you probably weren't even trying to recruit him anyway since you don't like to.

Posted by KingsportVol on July 2, 2008 at 6:12 p.m. (Suggest removal)

He weighed to much to play cornerback anyway.

Posted by TommyJack on July 2, 2008 at 6:15 p.m. (Suggest removal)

No worries. Plenty of time.

Posted by WorkinLikeHeck on July 2, 2008 at 6:15 p.m. (Suggest removal)

yeah, but he's bigger than McNeil at least.

Posted by utwick on July 2, 2008 at 6:19 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Hopefully we will find some potential DTs and DEs who grew up rooting for UT.

Posted by General_Watermelon on July 2, 2008 at 6:23 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Does Chavis have any eligibility left. If this keeps up, he's gonna have to clog up the middle.
Heh, maybe this is why Fulmer is beefing up Chavis?

Posted by General_Watermelon on July 2, 2008 at 6:24 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Good thing we signed a 4 star safety to clog up the middle. He may be the last order of defense.

No worries. Dupree is still unsigned. The retard is up to 5' 6" 550 lbs. and runs a 4 min and 50 second 40.

Another shock! All the idiots are out again. A South Carolina kid signs with USC! What is going on! Funny Florida did not get him, maybe they should fire Meyer, or Georgia should fire Richt, out goes Saban and Miles! Can't recruit or coach! Maybe they should go back to the pay site to get rid of the trash on here. I bet workin and fritter are the biggest fat butts in history and sit at home in their mom's basements playing XBox 360 dreaming of being an athlete and thinking they could actually coach or run a multi-million dollar corporation like UT sports. Your right we should listen the the idiots, maybe we could actually win 3 games!

Posted by Ironcity on July 2, 2008 at 6:56 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I know none of you truly believed this kid was coming to UT. He all but said if offered, he was going to SC. I think the kid showed class by not wasting anymore of our coaches time.

we need another DE like we need a second #%$@..

rockytop47...

You never know if workin and fritter were to replace Foolmer, the Vols may end the yearly average of 3 or 4 (and sometimes 5) losses a year since 2000. 11-2, 13-1, 14-0, 12-2 all of these records would be nice and grant a paycheck of 2.4 million a year. But 8-5, 5-7, 9-4, Those are Foolmer records. Anybody think the Vols will lose less than 3 games ever again under Foolmer?? Better keep dreamin' if you do.

interestingstory--do we plan to play out the seasons? do you have a crystal ball?

Chavis was so close on his 1st recruiting assignment.

When I saw the headline I was glad to see the Vols weren't going to play Fordham at the Polo Grounds.

rockytop47, somebody pee in the cheerios this morning?

Posted by utwick on July 2, 2008 at 7:42 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Ironcity,

You're right. This kid was a lock for SC if offered. No big surprise that they got him.

Posted by bobbarbilly on July 2, 2008 at 7:45 p.m. (Suggest removal)

If we signed every one of these kids, we would have to give as many football scholarships as Memphis does basketball scholarships.

Posted by FLVol on July 2, 2008 at 7:48 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Interestingstory- I think you are way off on this team and Phil Fulmer. TN is on an upswing similar to the early 90's when that special run was made. As long as Fulmer keeps hiring younger and innovative coaches and gets out of the way, this program is on it's way up again. I think he realizes that new ideas are needed now let's hope that Chavis can get a head coaching job somewhere else.

Posted by KingsportVol on July 2, 2008 at 8:38 p.m. (Suggest removal)

rockytop47 we were on the paysite idiot. Most of you Fulmerons were to cheap to join the site. I promise you if you saw either Workin or Fritter you would not have the balls to say a word to either one of them tough guy.

Kingsport - oh my. Please leave the fighting to TDTN. I'm a lover not a fighter. Please see watermelon news.

Missed out on a defensive player. What a shock!

Say it ain't so....

Posted by WorkinLikeHeck on July 2, 2008 at 9:10 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Ahhh...the longing for the paysite comments. Yeah, I miss paying for VOls coverage that is mainly copy and pasted and from other articles. It was a whole 40.00 a year anyway and they obviosuly couldn't get enough people to join to justify the cost or figured they could charge more for ads by having more traffic on a free site. I subscribed to it from the beginning even though it was horse manure.

Oh and nice try at calling me the
"biggest fat butt in history" though. Usually, when you use words such as "biggest" to describe something you know nothing about it is you that ends up looking like a moron. I mean honestly, we would have to be pretty big to be the "biggest". Do you really believe that in the entire world, that the 2 "biggest fat butts in history" post on this site? I bet you do which really doesn't surprise since you are dunce face. Feel free to continue posting and to continue to make yourself look like the idiot that you unfortunately are.

*sighs*

Fire ant! Fire ant! Fire ant!

(On a side note, the reason that I am so concerned with the lack of d-tackle/d-end committments is because the best seem to be committing elsewhere already.)

tigervol: you loser trash. the pay site would eliminate you, sir. Just kidding, tiger.

General I just adopted eduardo. I'm sure you have seen him post on here. He is 6'7 134 lbs. He just mowed 2 acres with a push mower in 45 minutes. If I can get him a green card I will have him give Chavis his highlight film the next time he is in for bowel blow out night at El Chico's. We need more DB's. Eduardo made this video for his favorite poster TDTN.

Would love to have had him but, hey, you can't blame a kid for staying in-state and playing for his home university.

Wish more of the blue-chips kids in Tennessee would do that.

You know-
Some of you that seem to spend all your time on here defending the football staff against any and all criticism, whether justified or not, - have you taken the time to realize, if the staff would just get better results on the field, your "job" would be a whole lot easier.

Maybe you guys should just send them a memo

Did I FINALLY hear that long awaited battle cry, the one that will set us apart forever from all the traditional, boring schemes? The one that will wreak havoc on unsuspecting offenses who won't have time to execute their poor little plans. "FIREANT!" Yeah baby! That's what I'm talkin' about! Way to go tigervol9802! Dream the dream! Cheer the cheer! Swarm the swarm! The fireants are everywhere! Disrupting offenses that never dreamed of such an adverary! FIREANT!

Posted by tngeoff on July 3, 2008 at 9 a.m. (Suggest removal)

By the way...I do seem remember many "knowledgeable" folks posting rude comments about recruits who didn't sign with us last year. They taunted them like they were idiots and made "knowleadgeable" comments like, "Yeah! We didn't need them anyway! Losers!" But...as fate would have it...we did need them! Our recruiting ended up being just a tad off. Very odd.

Posted by tngeoff on July 3, 2008 at 9:07 a.m. (Suggest removal)

By the way...if we use the excuse "Players tend to choose their own home state" (which is a crock of excrement)...I guess we should say goodbye to Chris Bonds as well. If South Carolina is such a beacon shining bright for home grown talent...especially defensive linemen which we NEED and CAN'T GET. Just a thought.

tngeoff 8:50am - perchance some of these good "fans" are not familiar with the southern fireant.

To them I would just say, think of a red wasp without wings. He makes an impression. They have killed people. South Ga has 3 foot high grey mounds that would fell an elephant. The few I had ran into trouble standing against Texaco unleaded poured down the sometimes 6' tunnel.

A question for savageo, or anyone else who might know. Aren't we expected to get Rae Sykes, Rufus Williams, and Cory Hall back from JC with this class? Sykes and Williams, if I remember correctly, are DEs, and I have heard that Hall has grown big enough to be a DT. Can anyone confirm this? As far as the Fordham kid goes, best of luck to him. Some kids just don't want to go too far from home. I don't think you can begrudge him that. SC is where his heart is. That being the case, no slight to Mr. Fordham, but we don't want or need him here if he can't give us his heart. I'm sure he's a talented kid and I'm sure if he could have given us his all, we would have wanted him, but he couldn't, so he's better off with the Gamecocks. Hopefully we find some kids on the defensive side of the ball willing to give us their all.
