Stop at Hargrave works for Sterling

For Andre Sterling, the road to Ole Miss runs through Virginia’s Hargrave Military Academy.

The former Farragut High School standout said Wednesday that he will enroll at Hargrave for one semester before enrolling at Ole Miss in January.

“We had talked about that before and he said I might have to do it,” Sterling said, referring to a conversation with first-year Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt.

Sterling said there are two reasons he opted for a stop at Hargrave.

First, Sterling said he could use some discipline for academics, though his grades are already good enough to enroll at Ole Miss.

Sterling said he had a 3.25 grade point average for his last semester at Farragut but “wanted to get discipline for school because I kinda messed around for a couple years before cracking down the last three semesters.”

Second, Sterling said he is “underdeveloped” to play at Ole Miss.

“The reason why I don’t mind going (to Hargrave) is because it gets me ready when I get down there,” he said. “I’ll be a lot bigger and a lot stronger and a lot better.”

Ole Miss was the only SEC program to offer Sterling a full scholarship.

Sterling rushed for more than 2,700 yards and 29 touchdowns during his senior season at Farragut.
