Top receiver prospect narrows list

Brown still looking at Tennessee

Harding Academy rising senior wide receiver Marlon Brown, the nation’s No. 2 receiver prospect according to Rivals.com, told The Commercial Appeal on Wednesday he has narrowed his lengthy list of potential college destinations to 10 finalists.

Brown (6-foot-5, 205 pounds), ranked the No. 17 overall prospect nationally by Rivals.com, said he’s considering scholarship offers from USC, UCLA, Stanford, Ohio State, Notre Dame, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and Oklahoma.

Brown said the list was “in no particular order,” and that he would narrow it down to five or six schools in early August.

“Now it’s real stressful because I’m getting phone calls from people I don’t even know. I don’t even answer the phone sometimes,” Brown said.

As a junior last season, Brown registered 41 receptions for 861 yards (21 yards per catch) and six touchdowns. He also rushed for 629 yards and 10 touchdowns on 58 carries (10.8 yards per carry).

Come to UT Marlon and play for 2 great programs! We can get you to the NFL or the NBA.

It would be amazing to land Brown and Randle.

Oh, man! A Brown/Nunes matchup is one made in heaven. That would be the duo to gather national attention!

gohawks1 writes:

DaddyVol - why not Brown AND Randle? Line 'em up on both sides of the ball and give opposing defensive coordinators migraines!

gohawks1 writes:

Is Brown considering BB? I haven't read anything about that, yet it has been mentioned in more than one post. What's the word on that?

And DTs. Don't forget we need DTs. Big ones. Preferably mean on the field but good citizens off.

gohawks1 writes:

Don't know how I missed that. Either way, love to have him, though.

utchris writes:

I thought that I read some place that Randle was close to committing to Miami.

If we could only get one of them, I would take Brown. The kid is a beast.

Keep it rollin coaches. All the workin like heck is paying off.If we can land this one we can really start being selective on who we offer.I'm not going to say it but we could use a couple at a certain possition.
Pound the recruiting trail and stay the course.
GO VOLS!

What...? -- No "Workin Like Heck"? I guess he can't put a negative spin on EVERYTHING. GO VOLS!!

Nunes to Brown for 6 has a nice ring to it.

I hope this young man comes here, but I don't think he will.

Yeah this is a playmaker. My concern is seeing 3 California schools on his list. The allure of mild weather might be something on his mind. We can offer him that in October.

GoIrish writes:

OK guys, help me out. I take it he's the top recruit in your state. Where is Harding located? Just trying to see if it's close to middle Tenn. where we have had so much success lately. ND has a lot of young top receivers on the roster though and Michael Floyd hasn't even played a down for us yet, so I'm not holding my breath here.

chad_t31 writes:

I hope the young man stays home and plays at UT. In the back of my mind all I think about when a homegrown receiver leaves the state to play elsewhere is...Patrick Turner. Things really worked out well for him at USC.

We have a few great wr's on our radar. This one is at the top of the list.Love to get him and atleast one other in this class.
Keep workin like heck and stay the course Coaches. You're doing great.
Go Vols!!!
