Catchings, Lawson added to Olympic team
As expected, former University of Tennessee stars Tamika Catchings and Kara Lawson were added to the roster for the U.S. Olympic women's basketball team.
They, along with DeLisha Milton-Jones, complete a team that already included former Lady Vols All-American Candace Parker.
Catchings, Indiana Fever star, would have been picked on the original team if not for an injury that sidelined her for the first part of the WNBA season.
Lawson plays point guard for the Sacramento Monarchs and has played with the U.S. team through most of its exhibition tour.
Word was leaked of the selections Wednesday, but it was made official on the USA Basketball web site Thursday.
“I’m thrilled that Tamika, DeLisha and Kara have been added to the team,” said USA head coach Anne Donovan. “Tamika is such a complete player and a tenacious defender who will add much to our already strong Olympic team. DeLisha’s international and Olympic experience is sure to further fortify our inside game. Kara’s extensive experience training with the national team these last several years has made her a perfect selection. “
