Three-time Grammy nominee Pat Green will be the featured performer at the second annual “Big Orange Blast” on Sept. 18 at World’s Fair Park.
The event is hosted by the University of Tennessee Athletics Department in conjunction with IMG College/The Vol Network. The blast will come two days before the Vols host Florida at Neyland Stadium.
“Tennessee has a tremendous fan base,” said Tennessee men’s athletic director Mike Hamilton said in a UT media release. “This event is a great opportunity for us to get into the community and celebrate the start of football season with the fans that fill our stadium every week.”
Festivities begin at 7 p.m. Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer and select members of the Tennessee football team will participate with the Pride of the Southland Marching Band, UT cheerleaders and Smokey at a pep rally at 7:45 p.m. Advance tickets are available at www.utbigorangeblast.com or at the University of Tennessee Book and Supply Store for only $10. Tickets day off the event will be $20. All seating is general admission.
“I know Tennessee football is a big deal,” said Green in the release. “This is one party I’m really looking forward to!”
The event is presented by SUBWAY® restaurants, the Tennessee Army National Guard and Dish Network.
Famous Dave’s BBQ, Domino’s Pizza and Coca-Cola will be on-site vending food and drinks to all in attendance. Tennessee Traditions, the athletic department’s souvenir provider, will also be on site to offer Tennessee apparel including commemorative Big Orange Blast gear provided by local Knoxville business, Threds.
Additional Big Orange Blast partners include the Knoxville News Sentinel, Volunteer TV – WVLT/MYVLT2, WIVK, the Sports Animal and the Knoxville Area Chamber Partnership.

Should be a good time. Pat Green really does put on a good show. Have your diplomas ready for Volgrad to check upon entering. Only "real" fans are allowed. Sorry to all posers.

I guess Chesney is hosting the Bull Gator Pep rally at Calhoun's on Friday night?
Waldorf writes:
Wonder how many other universities charge for a "pep rally" before the annual biggest game of the year?
mattlock writes:
Whoa, for a minute there I thought the headline was talking about Jerry Green, and while his press conferences can be entertaining. . .the whole country-idiot-shtick gets old after a while.

I'm not saying another word about Green.

i've got an idea for you guys...why doesn't the university just do nothing...ohhh wait, you'd still find a way to gripe and complain. Do you realize how pathetic you sound?
WorkinLikeHeck writes:
Didn't they have Pat Green do this last year or 2 years ago? Hey, let's do the same thing over and over again just like Foolmore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know sometimes I sound like the governor of the state of positivity......but this is a concert that costs 10 bucks, that would cost 60 or more otherwise. In addition, this will be a concert with a pep rally thrown in. Not a bad deal. Get over it. if you don't want to pay 10 bucks............stay in Lenoir City and complain about the stop light that has been broken for 12 hours now.........Thanks for coming out.......

VOLS85: I think self-realization is Stage 5, most of us are at Stage 2 at best. . .
MOOREVOLS writes:
GoshDarn--I guess you expect Pat Green to play for free. $10 is pretty cheap now days for a concert.
VolMoment writes:
Read the previous posters and you will figure out the ones who thump the bottom of the collection plate when it is passed and then responds to their sister, girl friend in some cases, that they are not going to pay to go to church. Let the pastor starve.
Go Vols!
Waldorf writes:
Actually have seen Pat Green play for free before....in Knoxville actually.
City of Knoxville has provided free concerts for a few years now. Sounds like Moneybags Hamilton needs to try to ask some of the big wigs to pony up a little bit once in a while to provide something for the fans.
Won't be attending.
MOOREVOLS writes:
GoshDarn--If you get Pat Green for free today you're doing very good. You can't get him for $10 99.9% of the time. He's a $40 to $50 headliner on most nights.
MOOREVOLS writes:
I won't be attending either. I'm not a big country music fan. But, I do know a good deal when I see one. This is good for country music fans and Tennessee football.
Pullingguard writes:
Question.... Why would they select Green over K. Chesney a local East Tennessee guy who is about as big as it gets.. Chesney is a huge Vol fan and headline entertainer, just wondering why this would happen... maybe conflict in scheduling..
Waldorf writes:
Pullingguard - I'm sure Chesney has a date with Tebow that night. If he did show up, I would hope he would be booed off stage.
And Moore -
Ummm......not so sure I would call this concert schedule worthy of the phrase "headliner".

Don't get me wrong, I like Pat Green (well, his old stuff), but let's not overstate his status here.
WorkinLikeHeck writes:
Pullinguard...KC will be hanging out with the Bull Gators instead. Maybe Tebow will let him wear his helmet again. Hopefully Foolmore doesn't let BJ Coleman prance around in Superman Cap imitating Tebow (Superman) again this year since it seemed to work so well last year.
Waldorf writes:
edit - I forgot to mention this but will consider the House of Blues a pretty nice gig.

Actually Buckly, I tithe at church AND pay for season tickets to football. I get great satisfaction out of giving to one institution and a sense that my money is going to help do great things. I'll let you decide which one. . .

"I know Tenn football is a big deal". Pat Green.
Throw another $20 on the fire.
I bet they don't even have free koolade.
It'd be a bargain for thrice the price!
Pullingguard writes:
Another question... What is wrong with Chesney associating with the Gator crowd before a gig in Florida... It's called building relationships to sell records and concert tickets... Now if he was doing this during a Vol/Florida game it would be a different story... But no big deal othewise, for everyone has to promote themselves with the go crowd. Just an opinion..

Sally Strothers on South Park was rollicking when Cartman found her "charity".
Took about 14,000 calories daily to keep that petite frame going.

Pat Green is maybe worth $2 cover at The Stage in Nashville. No more. At least they serve beer at The Stage.
