Incoming freshman Bass cleared for conditioning work

Tennessee incoming freshman Brianna Bass, who underwent knee surgery in February, has been cleared for skills and conditioning work but not for basketball.

Bass had surgery to repair a torn ACL in her left knee late in her senior season at North Central High School in Indianapolis. She is enrolled in summer school at Tennessee and will be re-examined next month.

“She just has to get a little stronger, we’re only five months out (from surgery)’’ Jenny Moshak, assistant athletic director for sports medicine, said Thursday. “The beautiful thing about basketball is we have time.’’

Bass, a 5-foot-2 point guard, overcame ACL surgery on her right knee during her sophomore year.

Bass began summer school last week. She can participate in individual skills, controlled conditioning and strength work, Moshak said.

Pickup games will have to wait.

“We’ll re-check in a month,’’ Moshak said. “She may get cleared for those mid-September team workouts.’’

Bass is one of six incoming freshmen in UT’s recruiting class as the Lady Vols reload after winning back-to-back NCAA tournament championships.

Bass is being counted on to help replace departed Shannon Bobbitt. Junior point guard Cait McMahan sat out the 2007-08 season while recovering from knee surgery. McMahan projects to be full speed for the coming year.

Just follow the rehab plan and you'll be stepping onto the Summitt wearing orange and white with the rest of the Lady Vols. Good Luck!

Pat's turn to shine. Pat did a helluva job against stanford, the perfect plan.

now, this eeason, she starts from scratch, really in a hole. Vick Baugh is maybe the best returning player, and she's hurt. we have some talent, and some coming in, but all of them have to learn to play together and NO CANDACE.

It is going to be interesting to see how it plays out.
