Offensive lineman Will Jackson from Farragut High School committed to Georgia Tech on Saturday during an unofficial visit.
The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Jackson, who held more than 13 scholarship offers, chose the Yellow Jackets over Ole Miss and Wake Forest.
Jackson said he's strongly considered Georgia Tech since he received a scholarship offer in late February.
"They've always stood out to me," he said. "It's the only place I could see myself playing. I knew for sure when I went there for my visit this weekend."
Jackson has visited Georgia Tech previously to see the university's academic side.
That made the Yellow Jackets even more appealing.
"For it to be the academic school that it is and great at football it's definitely a great combination to have," Jackson said.
Jackson also has the combination of skills suited for new coach Paul Johnson's offense.
Johnson, who coached the previous six seasons at Navy, has installed a triple-option offense at Georgia Tech.
Johnson's offense looks for linemen with the athletic ability to pull and move around on the field.
Jackson believes that style fits him perfectly.
"The offense plays to my strength of having quick feet," he said. "I'm not that big, prototypical 300-plus pound offensive lineman."
Jackson made his commitment to co-offensive line coach Mike Sewak before informing Johnson of his decision.
Both coaches were happy to have Jackson's pledge.
"They were all really excited about it and excited to have me be a part of the program," he said. "And I'm excited to come down there in about a year."
Jackson was glad to have his decision made before his final year at Farragut.
He decided early in the recruiting process he wanted to make his decision before his senior season began.
"I couldn't imagine going into the season uncertain and taking my visits during the season," he said. "I wanted to get it done and go through my senior year and focus on school and football."
