Former University of Tennessee softball star Monica Abbott allowed two runs, three hits and struck out 10 in the U.S. team’s 6-2 win over the Akron Racers in a warm-up for the Olympics on Tuesday night.
The U.S. improved to 57-1 on its “Bound 4 Beijing” tour.
Abbott (16-0) settled down after giving up a two-run homer to Kristen Butler in the first inning for the Americans, who will play their Olympic opener Aug. 12 against Venezuela.
“Little shaky at the start,” Abbott said. “But we changed some things up and I was able to get into a good rhythm. This was a big game for us, and now we just have to tighten a few things up.”

It will be a long time before we ever have another one to equal Monica. But I'm sure the Weeklys will get us one.

Monica is amazing as are most of Team USA. She'll be a force for years to come in Women's Fast-Pitch. The Weeklys maybe have already reloaded the Lady Vols. They signed some awesome players for next year's squad. Time will tell whether we have another record breaker pitcher in the bunch.

I can't wait until the Olympics to watch all the 1-0 double no-hitter women's softball games that are won on an error in the 13th inning. Excitement is in the air!!!!

Still gotta love Monica! I still miss her a lot!

would that be a hoopster fan posting here with a post name Hopson2008? Duh.......I'm not sure the comment about excitement wasn't sarcasm veiled. GO USA!!!

I thought softball had been discontinued at the Olympics. Maybe because China is a power, they're keeping it on the program.
I know what Hopson is getting at, but I'll bet if you looked at stats, softball and baseball are not a lot different in terms of scoring.
