Running back Gabriel Hunter from Kingsbury High School in Memphis has committed to Ole Miss.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Hunter chose the Rebels over Alabama.
“I felt like they were the school recruiting me the hardest,” Hunter said of Ole Miss. “Other schools were recruiting me but they weren’t recruiting me as hard as Ole Miss.”
Hunter, the News Sentinel’s eighth-best prospect in the state, also held scholarship offers from Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
Ole Miss was appealing to Hunter because of its close proximity to Memphis.
Hunter said he was looking for a school near his home.
“I want to stay close to my family,” he said.
Hunter said he would still like to take all five official visits allotted by the NCAA this fall.
He said he will visit Ole Miss and Texas Tech but hasn’t decided on the other three visits.
Hunter received interest from UT during the spring but lost contact with the Vols after his school year ended.
That’s probably due to the fact UT has commitments from four players who could play in the offensive backfield: Jarvis Giles from Gaither High in Tampa, Fla., Damien Thigpen of Stonewall Jackson High in Manassas, Va., Toney Williams of Milton High in Alpharetta, Ga., and Dominique Allen from Henry County High in Paris, Tenn.
UT is also actively recruiting running back David Oku from Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, Okla.
Oku, rated the 82nd best player in the nation and No. 1 all-purpose running back by Rivals.com, visited UT in April and will likely return for an official visit this fall.

Good luck playing for 4th place in the SEC West every year. Sounds like great fun.

Wow. Why attack this kid? I believe we actually offered him and if our recruiting wasn't as explosive as it is, we may have pursued him more strongly. How about we just wish him luck playing D-1 fb? No need to hate.

Congratulations to any kid getting out of inner-city Memphis. I hope he makes the best of this opportunity. Agreed Bsweet, it takes a heck of alot of ability to even get a D-1 scholarship, let aloe one from an SEC school. UT didnt need him, but if they do take another back, it will be Oku.

Why don't you losers calm down a little bit. All I did was state the facts about Ole Piss & how much they suck. I don't think I cracked on the kid, morons.
