The Athens Banner-Herald is reporting that the suspension of Georgia offensive lineman Clint Boling could be reduced or possibly scrapped after Boling pleaded guilty last Thursday to the reduced charge of reckless driving.
Boling was given a two-game suspension after being arrested in May for DUI, failure to maintain lane and failure to signal when changing lanes.
The sophomore guard was sentenced for the reckless driving charge to 83 hours of jail time - which he served from Thursday to Monday - placed on 12 months probation and given 54 hours of community service.
Georgia coach Mark Richt is expected to revisit Boling's suspension in the coming days.
The 6-foot-5, 290-pound Boling was named to the SEC all-freshman team by the SEC coaches last season.
He started 11 games last season, including 10 at right guard where he was listed as Georgia's starter on its preseason depth chart.

Yeah! He's guilty! Now we can back off our punishment!
Oh, I'm fir...nevermind.

This is kind of suprising from Richt. I always viewed him as a man of character.
ctownvol writes:
So he was arrested for drunken driving in May. Given a two game suspension. Then after pleading guilty to a lesser charge, his suspension is possibly gonna be lifted? Nice. Stay classy Athens.

Typical early season things. Start out being tough, then once practice starts, slap on the wrist and don't do it again. This is why college and pro athletes are the way they are. No discipline.

They needed him back for their first 2 nail-biters. lol

So this is the "new" Coach Richt???

So did Jimmy Swaggert.

This does not sound like Coach Richt at all
guess maybe looking at a n.c. changes things

This is all speculation that the suspension may be lifted. The kid was pulled over and passed the field test but refused to blow into the breathalyzer. He did admit to drinking earlier in the evening to the officer. I not stupid enough to believe that he probably was not intoxicated but if the charges don't stick then they don't stick. I would be somewhat surprised if CMR lifts both games for the suspensions. This is the kids first brush with the law so I guess it he could lift it since the alcohol charge was dropped. In the cases that have involved alcohol CMR has usually given a minimum of the next two games suspensions. Since these things usually happen in the summer those games are the first two. You can't go around picking a choosing which games to miss. Well I guess you can if you are Shula at Bama.
Anyway Ctownvol how many games...um practices did Cocker miss before being kicked out of school for failing four drug tests? I'm not suggesting CMR is a saint and PF is the devil. IHO it is quite the contrary. I thought PF has dealt with discipline fairly with the exception of Coker and McDaniels. Obivously the practice suspensions were not getting through with Coker and McDaniel cleary should have gotten more than just two games for the sucker punch that was in that video.
Tenn_Dawg writes:
Update - per the AJC. Like I said I would be surprised if he lifted both games because the kid obivously deserved to be punished to some extent even with the more serious charge being dropped.
"With the change in the charges and the attitude that Clint has demonstrated I have reevaluated his situation and decided on the one-game suspension as a fair penalty," Richt said in a press release. "Clint has been remorseful and pro-active in handling all his responsibilities in a mature manner with a good attitude. He's learned a strong lesson that I'm sure will serve him well from here on

Sounds like it's straight out of the Selective Punishment 101 notebook of Houston Nutt and John Calipari. Heaven forbid that we throw the little darlings under the bus and really make them be accountable for their actions.
Could it be that a two game suspension would leave him a little rusty for that third game that they always seem to have trouble with---South Carolina?

Sorry Richt, this still counts towards the Fulmer Cup.....
ctownvol writes:
Tenn_D- Sorry. I can't make myself spell the word dog that way.
point taken. I agree. If Coker the Smoker was failing drug tests he should've been kicked off way sooner and the McDaniel sucker punch was down right wrong too.
Ironcity writes:
Anyone who has followed Richt at Georgia would NOT be surprised by this. He is the most lax coach in the conference. The only time he truly punishes a player is if the university makes him. I always chuckle at the idiots who use Richt as an example of how Fulmer should be when it comes to disipline.
PS TennDawg the translation of Richt's statement is "we need you that second game but not the first"
spvol writes:
Fire Fulmer! He has lost control of the Georgia program!
vol4gzus writes:
Since we can read coach Richt's mind we can all continue to speak our minds with absolute 100% certainty right? No we can't. Yes we despise them dogs very much, but I would rather give the coach the benefit of the doubt like I would want someone to do with me. Or does he get different treatment? He who is without sin throw the first stone. Whats that I hear? Oh those are stones hitting the ground sir as they are dropped by those with enough character/integrity to examine themselves honestly and after doing so withdraw their accusations. I hope the young man gets his act together socially. He can feel free to sit out our game(right). Coach Richt does not answer to me or you and will give account one day for his decision if made in error. This looks like our(UT) coach trying to help a young man with his first offense. Especially since the young man appears to be complying with things set down for him to be reinstated. GO VOLS!!!
Ironcity writes:
Eventually the university will kick the kid out. It will be similar to how it went down with Odell Thurman. The only punishment he ever got was mandated by University policy, not Richt. I really don't care what Richt does with his team since it has nothing to do with me. If he wants felons playing Linebacker or anywhere on the team (he has in the past) then thats OK with me. My only problem is with posters here who tend to hold him up as an example of how coach Fulmer should run his program. Thats what I have a problem with.

Ironcity...this is like the third time I have read you talk about playing felons. Odell was kicked out of school for a second alcohol related offense and then allowed to return after one year. Odell is obviously one of those guys that just can't keep it together. Again...who are the felons playing LB? I assume you are talking about Ellerbe? He is not a felon. He crashed his roommates car into a tree and left the scene. His roommate never pressed charges of stolen property. Ellerbe was kicked off the team for a year and allowed to return and has since stayed out of trouble. You should probably get some facts straight before spouting off. And for the record I think PF should run his program as he sees fit. I am not in agreement with Adams and I felt that the article was trash.
DCflorida...let go of the hate man it will just eat you up inside. An azzwhoppin may be coming but at this point UGA is much more worried about the teams that actually play great defense LSU and UT.
Ironcity writes:
Ellerbee was suspended two or three games not a year. He may have redshirted that year but he could have played and would have if need be. Thurman was kicked off twice. You are right though, I did embellished a bit. There are other examples where by Richt has been extremely lax in his punishments.
Its his program he should do what he sees fit. It bothers me when others on this board talk about UGA and Richt as if they do everything the right way and Fulmer and UT does everything the wrong way.
Tenn_Dawg writes:
Ironcity...point received but think about the people you are referring to. They just don't like Fulmer and they will use everything they can to justify trashing him. I read this sight because 1.) It is a great site...it is almost a one stop shop for SEC news and 2.) I enjoy reading the posts in particluar the carnivous posts between UT fans. Have a great weekend...I'm heading up to the Smokies now.

Hey Bowler....I liked your response...even the devil goes to church on Sundays. You think he's ever led a congregational hymn before?
tnbanker_govols writes:
The devil indeed is not omnipresent as God but he does have plenty of his disciples doing his work for him.
vol4gzus writes:
tnbanker the good new ,of many types, is that his disciples are on the losing team! I pray they are shown the light and repent of their sins and turn to Jesus.
I'm curious do people want this player to have a ruined life because he plays for the dogs? Or do they care at all what course his life takes. Remember it could always be one of ours and then what direction does our thinking go.
Go VOLS get ready to Rocky Top Stomp the Bruins!!!
tnbanker_govols writes:
That's so true volgzus...he is on the losing side!!
You make a very good point though. A player gets in trouble and gets a slap on the wrist. Then, he gets out of college and he's not prepared for the real world because that's not how the real world operates. And in an attempt to alleviate his problems, he turns more to drugs or alcohol. I think we get caught up in the sports aspect of it and forget that these young men are kids who need direction and discipline.
