Kingsbury's Powell picks Memphis

Kingsbury High School senior Randy Powell, a 6-foot, 200-pound dual-threat quarterback and defensive back, said Thursday he has committed to hometown Memphis.

Powell, whom Rivals.com ranks a two-star safety prospect, said Tigers defensive coordinator Tim Walton recruited him as an athlete. Powell can bench press 300 pounds and turned in a 4.37-second 40-yard dash at Memphis’ prospect camp.

Powell said Louisville, Middle Tennessee State and Ole Miss also showed interest in his services.

“(Memphis) wants me to play wherever they need help at,” Powell said. “I’ll probably start out as a safety, but anything they need, whether it’s at receiver or tailback, they can just throw me in.

“I make plays, man. That’s all I do.”

If UT wasn't recruiting him, why is this on here?

Colliervol, it's just so UT will know who that safety is that's intercepting all those passes when Memphis beats UT in 2009.

Colliervol writes:

Yeah, right. Given their 1 and 23 lifetime record against UT, don't bet your house on it.

Ahh the jealousy is spreading. Now a tiger fan wants to play on our turf. For a while it was a few lonely, sad gator fans with one 'bammer' fan thrown in. And in their same style, low blow classless, you send forth your 2 cents as well. Is it that bad on your site? I mean you have to leave tiger land? Go back and dream about our game we will play on the plains. GO VOLS!!!

We have our db's in pretty good shape. So I like in state talent, but can't have them all. Tommy needs some too at Memphis.

Give him a break gzus. I think he's being facetious. Surely, he's not delusional enough to think that Memphis is beating UT in Knoxville next year.

vol4gzus writes:

Ok Collierville I submit to your suggestion. I thought it might be the brotherhood of Tiger mascots uniting against the evil VOLUNTEERS. We shall let that lil eagle soar over his plains in peace.

Is that all you got KNS?

Collievol anything is possible. I sat in the Liberty bowl and watched the Vols lose to the Tigers in 96. Never would have thought this was going to happen. Even told some friends we would probably leave early once UT got the big lead on them. Then again I don't think the Tigers stand much of chance winning in Neyland. As for Powell I hope his grades are straight and he can enroll. Tommy needs help all around. So many kids are not focusing on the things needed to get acceptance.
