Emmanuel Negedu, a 6-foot-6, 230-pound power forward from Brewster (N.H.) Academy, arrived at Tennessee for his men's basketball visit Tuesday.
Negedu has visited Indiana and Georgia Tech, and will visit Memphis after spending today on the Knoxville campus.
Negedu is rated 40th overall in the Class of 2008 by Rivals.com and is ranked 13th among power forwards.
He signed with Arizona in November, but asked for and received a release after the Wildcats had turnover on their coaching staff.

Dearest Ashley, pray tell what college do you think would be better for young Mr. Negedu?

Certainly would be nice having this guy since we lost McDonald to NC. Pearl could certainly sell him on our need for power forwards in next years class. GO VOLS.

are mediocrity and sweet16's really interchangeable? you sound like overated ... i'm all for advancing past the round of 16, but considering there is 341 d1 hoop teams, reaching the top 16 is like finishing in the top 6 in football. any takers for that?

Kingsport, so true. Ashley is one of those "fence" names.

Now, I don't blame him cause he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left, he went and named me "Sue."

Ashley is just telling the truth.
She is just being like the CPF haters only she is on the basketball hate.
She tells the truth though no elite 8's in forever. She is just making a point we have to listen to the CPF phooey that goes on so I think she can make a comment about the basketball team never and yes I said never making it to the elite 8.
Blast me if you wish but the truth hurts.

Before Pearl the vols were at home in March. After just three years we're in the NCAA every year. The Buzz/Green era was pathetic. Name me coaches who have turned around a team so fast. Even Cal took five years at Memphis to make the NCAA.
b_neas writes:
Most schools would love to go to the sweet 16 in consecutive years. Hey, Rome was not built in a day. I can not think of any college basketball programs that have rose from below average to a top program as fast as UT has under Pearl. Feel free to let me know of any if I am missing something. No matter how good you are some people will find anything to refute your success. If Pearl had won a NC it would be something else like, "Yeah you won your NC and are a top team but, last week I saw Tyler Smith not wash his hands after he went potty". Thats how fickle people are.

Guys that is my point. I love Pearl and TN basketball I think he is a great coach. You see how it sounds when you blast a team like you guys blast Fulmer when he does not deserve any of the stuff that is thrown his way. I hope they shove an elite 8 up my butt as well. That is just a point I'm trying to make nobody says anything about that we have never been to an elite 8 but yet we continue to drag Fulmers face in the mud b/c it has been 10 years since we won it all. Going to the sweet 16 is like winning a new years day bowl. Just making a point guys. I love all things at TN and I wish everybody did as well. But some people just don't get it.
b_neas writes:
The reason Green was bad (not pathetic) was he did less with more. He had more talent than any team Pearl has coached yet. He beat some good teams but lost to ones he should have beat. Not to mention the behavior of his players on and off the court. That to me is the main reason Pearl stands out, not only beside Green but beside any coach in the NCAA. He demands his players behave in the classroom and off the court. If they do not they get the pink slip regardless of their talent level or how important they are to the team.
WorkinLikeHeck writes:
Pearl has won an SEC title this decade and his teams overachieve. Foolmore's teams have underacheived and haven't won jack this decade. Either way, I am not going to cry about snide comments about Pearl and "only reaching Sweet 16s" and winning SEC titles and being ranked #1 at one point.
Silent_Fulmer writes:
mjohnsonvols (aka long summer) I doubt BP will ever take a couple of years off that leads to a under .500 season.
TopTenn writes:
Green was a decent coach with a good record but he could not create excitement for the program. TBA was at half capacity during his tenure.
WorkinLikeHeck writes:
I highly doubt Pearl will ever need to be "rejuvenated" or have that "look in his eye again" for an upcoming season. Foolmore, meanwhile prefers to use the words "babysit" when talking about the early signing period and is worried about it cutting in on his time in Jackson Hole. Pearl instead of taking vacation, goes to the Portsmouth Invitational to help Jujuan and Lofton make contacts for getting into the NBA.
TopTenn writes:
Bruce sign Negedu today. Keep him out of Memphis for his safety.
VolGraduate writes:
Pearl is an opportunist and pimps UT and its player athletes for his own benefit. He will be gone from UT way before you can compare his UT career with Fulmer's. He has done a good job so far but loyalty is not a word that should be used to describe Pearl.

Fulmer needs to go. Our football team needs to go in a different direction. This can't happen as long as he handcuffs the Coordinators. Recruiting classes get worse every year, and now Notre Dame comes in and takes our in-state recruits. Pearl, on the other hand, is proactive and determined. He gets people excited and then we get the top recruiting classes and improve every year. Fulmer makes you look forward to basketball season. Not good.
mjohnsonvols writes:
Being ranked # 1 in the during the season means nothing it is what you do at the end and neither was ranked #1 at the end of the season. UNC was ranked pretty much all year at # 1 and so was UCLA but at the end did they get anything for that? Nope!
I don't hate Pearl I love Pearl but the basketball program is just like the football program it has done nothing nationally.
Hey silent I don't care if it is going to be a long summer bring it. It can be too long summer Football is only a little over 2 months away. But if it stays this hot it will be a long summer for all of us.

Being an up and coming program, rather than a blue blood (Kansas, Kentucky, UNC, Indiana, UCLA, Duke) means being up and coming. It means overachieving, which Coach Pearl has done every year he has been here. It also means having recruiting classes come to town that take you to the next level. Coach Pearl has done that as well.
If you are truly so intent on looking at the glass as half empty, then go ahead. But any reasonable person knows that what we have done since Coach Pearl arrived has been tremendous, fun, and a breath of fresh air. We have a Coach who is one of the top personalities in all of college athletics, our facilities have improved, and we as a program improve every year.
Dean Smith and Bobby Knight were two of the greatest Coaches of all time. Smith won two national championships in 36 years of coaching and many years had lineups that could have won an NBA championship. Coach Knight won 3 championships over a longer period, but nothing in the last twenty years. Greatness is not just defined by the end of the season. It also defined by the season as a whole, by players with character and by a coach with integrity and class.
We have that. You don't like it, root for Memphis.
b_neas writes:
Why would Pearl leave? He does not have a history of leaving programs early. He likes to develop a program (at least 6-8 years) and then maybe he could leave. But why would he. He is not going to get paid more anywhere he goes not to mention he is treated like a God in Knoxville. I just do not see it happening.
Silent_Fulmer writes:

These are exact quotes from Pearl about making the jump from DII to DI. How long before Pearl jumps ship on UT for a more prestigious college or the NBA? While he markets (i.e. chest painting) the UT hoops program he is also marketing himself for his next career move.
I hope I'm wrong

b_neas writes:
The NBA does not fit his style. How many teams press and play hard defense the entire game in the NBA? Not to mention he could not be interact with his players. He truly enjoys the relationships he builds with his players. That would not happen in the NBA. He may go to a more pretigious NCAA school, but the direction he has UT going that list may be shrinking. Hamilton is going to pay him a competitive salary, so I do not think $$ will be an issue either.

In other news, Foolmore hopes everyone is having a great summer from Jackson Hole and doing everything he can to rejuvenate himself and get that look in his eye again for the upcoming season. He thinks he'll be able to come out the witness protection program in late July for SEC media days.

and chrslyp....the reason most have it hid is they (like workin) are afraid someone will track them down in their mama's basement and "hurt them." Takes a real man to talk smack and constantly start things hiding behind a Screenname
