Hopson makes 62-footer at buzzer in All-Star game

Tennessee signee Scotty Hopson warmed up for Monday’s debut in the Rocky Top League with a dazzling shot.

Hopson heaved a shot from beyond halfcourt — estimated at 62 feet — at the buzzer that sailed into the basket, but it was too late. Kentucky lost 83-82 to Indiana in Friday night’s All-Star basketball game at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Indiana overcame an early 11-point deficit and used stifling defense to force 29 turnovers and win their eighth straight over Kentucky.

Hopson played 19 minutes and finished with 14 points (5-of-13 shooting and 3-of-3 from 3-point range) and five rebounds, but turned the ball over six times.

Indiana will play Kentucky again on Sunday at Louisville Gardens.

Gotta cut back on the turnovers though, especially with our Point Guard position being the way it is. BUT I think it might change this year!!!

The kid's good, but is it really newsworthy to talk about hitting a 62 foot shot? Come on.

I would brag if I could hit a 6 foot shot.

volfan32,you would brag if you could only play in a game.Maybe this is not news to you but to some of us,well, we are glad to hear it.

volfan32: I think the bigger point to the story was his actual stats from the all star game. The 62 footer was a game-winning type shot that was just a little late. Yeah... I'd kinda like to hear about stuff like that! Stop complaining. The more news we can get about anything Vols, we'll take it. They do call it GoVolsEXTRA.

GO VOLS

One thing you can always count on TN fans for - HYPE and OVERREACTING! I don't doubt this kid as I've seen him play several times BUT can't we wait until he actually PLAYS A GAME in orange before annointing him???!!!! You folks need to realize how YOUNG next year's team is going to be and dial down those expectations cause it ain't gonna be a Final Four squad without some real unexpected developments!

Not sure how many all-star games CatScratch has seen, but turnovers are the rule in most of them. For one thing, players are by definition playing with team-mates they haven't played with before, so they don't know what their tendencies are, e.g., whether they prefer to cut to the hoop or curl for the jumper on pick-and-roll plays. For another, everyone goes for the high-light-reel plays--I'll bet half those turnovers were on long run-out passes the receiver couldn't catch up to or on 12'-high lob attempts. Actually, I think CatScratch's comment sounds more like sour grapes than actually making a point. Besides, Hopson won't be handling the ball all that much at UT, since he won't be the point guard. I agree with THE_VOL that we shouldn't make our Final Four reservations just yet, but I WILL hope no one in my family is planning any weddings or funerals that weekend(;-D)!
