Three in one day: Offensive lineman Schofield picks Vols

Offensive lineman JerQuari Schofield from South Aiken High School in Aiken S.C., became Tennessee’s third football commitment on Saturday and ninth for the 2009 signing class.

“I felt like it was one of the best decisions I ever made,” the 6-foot-6, 298-pound Schofield said. “Great area. Great people. I love Coach (Phillip) Fulmer and (offensive line) coach (Greg) Adkins.

UT offered Schofield a scholarship on Thursday, the first day of the weekend camp. Schofield took two days to think about it and committed to UT on Saturday evening.

Schofield also had offers from Gardner Webb and Charleston Southern.

Schofield certainly caught the collective eye of UT’s coaches with his massive frame and performance this weekend.

“All I really did was hustle, work hard and just pay attention,” Schofield said.

Surely a 6-6, 300 pounder who can "hustle, work hard and just pay attention” can play DT right?

Good work coaches. Give your all for Tennesse kid. Welcome.

Keep it rolling! Welcome aboard JerQuari!

A big o-line commit is great, but are we now regulated to competing with G-webb & Charleston Southern? Hope this kid is just a diamond in the rough that no one is on yet.

Smallmike4pres - maybe (hoping) he just hasn't attended any camps and therefor hasn't recieved the attention needed to garner interest from the big boys! If the kid can play..... Awesome! Welcom aboard!!

great size and I know we have had some diamond in the rough O-lineman, BUT, I'm one of the biggest Fulmer supporters ever and I have to agree with smallmike a little here!!! This ain't even MTSU or ETSU, it's Gardner freaking Webb!!!

I agree. Offering this kid is fine. In January. I don't know why you offer a kid with no SEC or national interest in June when he has yet to play his senior year. Trusting the coaching staff who has seen him in THEIR camp is one thing. But remember - this is the same staff that doesn't feel there is anything wrong and states that we only need to work like heck and watch film to get better. Not to mention that we were only ____ plays from being _____ and _____.

You guys are a bunch of chuckle heads. All this whining about getting a guy who hasn't shown up on other teams' radar...just plain dumb. So by your logic we wait around til ten other national programs take an interest and have him on the hook...THEN it's ok to recruit him??? DEE EWE EM BE-- DUMB.

Rivals list Florida, South Carolina, Wake Forest, and Clemson as other schools that were looking for his services. Having no stars by his name may be more of a product of scouting services not having enough information to rate him.

6-6 300 pounds .. uuhh .. he's gonna take up a lot of space, if anything. And Vol13, I think that coaching staff mostly left after the Wisconsin game ;)

utchris2003,

Thank you for restoring some sanity with a little research.

Toney Williams and Dominique Allen did not have any stars when we recruited them just a month ago. Now they both have 3 stars, and I bet the same thing happens with this kid. Now that we have a leg to stand on from a recruiting standpoint, we need to put some serious work into getting Marlon Brown, Eric Gordon, and Morgan Moses!!!!!

If we could get 1 out of the 3 I named that would be sweet.

Couldn't agree more DaddyVol. I think Morgan needs to be the highest priority of the group. What a muunster! We wouldn't even need to feed him fritters. Looks like he already found the stash.

That's "relegated", not "regulated".

Idiot.

Here's a little more info on JerQuari Schofield from Jamie Newberg:

"So far Charleston Southern, Newberry and Gardner Webb have also offered him."

Sorry TXVOLSFAN, we are not only regulated to competing with Charleston Southern and Gardner Webb, but now include the perennial powerhouse out of the South Atlantic Conference - The Newberry Indians!

I think this could be pretty much characterized as a steal. To go in and get one out of the Carolinas like this from the Webb's, Berry's, and Charles', is a huge milestone.

Hopefully, this guy has been playing football in a cave somewhere in Aiken, SC. This might explain why he hasn't gotten any attention from the big boys.

Maybe JerQuari knows a DL or two from the Cave League that will head northwest as well. Remember, we only need about two in order to fill our 2-3-6 "spread" defense.

Schofield sent out his tape only a couple weeks ago. The recruiting services just hadn't found him yet. He's a monster and he likes going against the big boys. I know, I watched his dad put together his highlights in the locker room at my school, which was Aiken High, not South Aiken.

Gardner Webb and Charleston Southern? Is that a joke?

Posted by posivol on June 15, 2008 at 2:19 p.m. (Suggest removal)

its a laugh--recruiting starting to jump and the nagavols are scrambling for something (anything) to feed their negative natures.

s*ck it up POSERS,its just gonna get worse for you from here on out!

new VOLS got a new game plan, back to the curb for you bums.

You guys are nuts, reading this is comical at times!!

Posted by jorido on June 16, 2008 at 10:23 a.m. (Suggest removal)

To continue the comics. The writer of the article added the two schools as "humor" knowing that those of you reading Garfield would bounce. So he is reading and laughing as many of you have taken the bait.

Thats why this time is called the "silly season."

Hooker's getting back at foolmore with the gardner webb statements for getting kicked out of practices last year during Hooker-gate.
