Terry Bullman gives News Sentinel sports editor John Adams a firsthand look at martial arts, which is fast becoming a mainstream American sport.

Since News Sentinel sports editor John Adams is a favorite target for many posters on govolsxtra.com, we thought we would share a photo you would all enjoy.

The two stories John wrote for Sunday's paper on the boom of mixed martial arts won't appear on GVX. We know most of you don't even like SEC news here (Hint: Tebow, Alabama). So there's no need to upset the haters.

Terry Bullman, who has fought for the World Toughman Championship, boxed professionally and now competes in the World Combat League, demonstrates a move on John at Premier Martial Arts Center in Knoxville.

GVX, which won the 2008 EPpy Award for Best Sports Web Site (with fewer than one million unique monthly visitors), offers visitors a chance to leave a comment that only visitors to this site have anticipated.

Adams: Bullman is more than a toughman

Uh oh. Big Phil writing stories like a poster now! Nice.

Nice Pic. I think the comments will be good on this.

Take a shot at Adams' picture? Okay, I'll print the picture and take it to the pistol range! Go Vols! SAVol

DarthVol writes:

Interesting. I never thought much about it until now. But do the columnists, editors and anyone else involved with the paper actually read the posts outside yourself and Pennington? Do they know user names like posters know writers?

Are we running jokes with our posts or is some of this stuff actually taken seriously by those who write the articles/columns?

Is it a pre-req to have incredibly thin skin to write for the KNS?

dfreeman writes:

Okay Kaplan, this is funny! I'll bite. It's not that you write "A" story on Tebow. It's that you have written TONS of stories on Tebow. I wouldn't mind them if they were stories about Tebow and what the Gators did in spring practice that might give us an advantage or beat us on Saturdays. The last article you guys posted (and yes I know it was an AP article) documented Tebows monthly (daily) routine. It even told us he hadn't eaten a meatball sub until June 3. We know that he gives circumsitions and preaches (noble but not newsworthy for this site) across the world. I guess it gets tiresome when you guys hardly give any of our players the same kind of space and love! I can only imagine the smirk on your face when you did this article... kind of like saying up yours to your viewers. When people (loyal readers) do comment some disgust you might want to take some note of it, because some of them are what make up your audience! Try not to take digs at them when they bother you.

John Adams putting someone else's foot in his mouth this time instead of his own. Nice.

A little to your right, Terry!!!

ThurmondEppy writes:

Man, this is really weird...the editors getting upset or bothered by what the posters say. I get the message being sent in this article..."We won the Eppy Award so you posters don't know what you're talking about." That's a strange attitude to take. We're your readership, like it or not. If the readership doesn't want to read stories about Tebow, or Cutcliffe or Duke, why fight them? Why not give us more stories on the Vols? Is it because this is a free site, thus you figure you don't have to please anyone? I think that's the wrong attitude and I bet that most readers here would agree.

get a grip people john adams is just doining his job as a columnist . to be objective and entertain is par for the course . in the major media markets it is far worse than this so lets just be realistic and not forget this is his angle. every article does not really represent the editors ideas .just to start dialog . anybody know about the basketball recruit emmanuel negedu did he commit to us or memphis

knoxtenor writes:

C'mon, GVX! You absolutely TRADE on the John-Adams-as-Hitler-incarnate image! You LOVE it! I'm betting you encourage John to say outrageous stuff just so you can gets hits on GVX. "Hey, John, why don't you go dig up some dirt on Bruce Pearl from his divorce procedings?" "Hey, John, see if you can get a story about Peyton Manning driving through a questionable neighborhood in Indy." "Hey, John, why don't you start a rumor Chris Lofton's testicular cancer is a sham?" Quit trying to take the high ground: It doesn't become you. Who else is going to do your muckraking for you?

pdhuff#552644 writes:

Adams is paid to write. What he sees. How he sees it.

Many take offense at pointing out certain "unspeakable" isms.

The nine year drought, bouyed seemingly forever by Phil's long ago NC. The what-have -you-done-for-me-lately-crowd is unable to fathom blindly plowing the same field with the same falling short results.

Phil's a good man whose loyalty is not in question. Are we just washing the car and ignoring the flat tires?

How many want to bet this thread goes from "take a shot at Adams" to "take your shots at Phil Fulmer"?

volfan_brian writes:

Hmmmm....Adams writes articles that seem to be taken straight off the Alabama message boards...and passes them off as "Journalism"? And we are supposed to get on board with that???

dfreeman writes:

Oh and Kaplan, if you don't like the comments don't read em'!!

TommyJack writes:

All are welcome.

vol_in_lsu_land writes:

No TnGeoff. I don't make "decisions" as to what should be posted, that's the KNS staff's job. I just criticize. Just as its your right to post YOUTUBE links all day long, it's my right to criticize. Just as its huff's right to bring up DTs and 100 points hung on us (last year) about 5 times a day and at least 5 days a week, its my right to criticize him for doing so. If you can't take the heat...

BTW, the "all are welcome" thingy is funny. Just goes to show who thinks they "own" this forum. Appreciate y'all letting me post MY OPNIONS. Thanks fellas.

vol_in_lsu_land writes:

Look Geoff.

Fire away. Say whatever you want to me, I don't give a dang. This isn't about me or you. It isn't about Huff, TommyJack, Kingsport, TDTN, or WorkinLikeHeck or any of those guys either. It's about Tennessee Football.

Yes, it's been going on ten years since Fulmer led the Vols to a championship. I can tell you exactly where I was the last time. I was in my apartment off-post at Ft. Hood, Texas during my third year in the Army. I was 26 at the time. I'm 35 now, have been married and divorced and have raised a boy to the age of seven. It's been the fastest ten years of my life, gone by in the blink of an eye. But that's just it, ten years isn't forever. It isn't the longest drought in history in college football terms. It really seems just like yesterday that I was bragging to my Alabama roommate that we won the National title. How many decade long droughts has Tennessee endured in the past? Longer periods? How many droughts have other schools endured much longer than that? When was Auburn's last NC? That's a great program that has endured a lot more drought periods than UT.

But this isn't about championships for you in particular. You are a Johnny Majors boy and have your grudge. That has been exposed all over this site, the lot of you. Whatever.

GerryOP writes:

I think many of you missed the message. Kaplan is saying "OK, have it your way. Adams will write and we will post it elsewhere. If you narrow minded folks don't want to read it, we really don't care."

If you recall Pennington's final blog a few years ago, he ranted that there was no use in trying to stimulate discussion, intelligent or otherwise, when all you narrow minded people wanted to hear about was all Orange all of the time ... and any criticism of the Orange would not be tolerated ... and the intolerance is demonstrated by less than literate and less than intelligible rants.

The KNS will continue to offer this FREE forum to satisfy your anal needs for attention, Adams will continue to write columns to his heart's content (and get paid for it!), and some of you guys will continue to display your intolerance and ignorance for all to see.

Be well ya'all ... and ... if we make it through September ...

dfreeman writes:

Kingsport - that was way too funny! He probably needs cash now that he's out of a job! Happy Fathers day to EVERYONE on here. Even you guys at KNS if you have kids!! Hope all is well with all on here!

dfreeman writes:

Did you guys see Tiger hit that chip yesterday? I mean it's one thing to be that good, and it's another to be that good and lucky too! Makes me want to go get a statue of a small bald fat guy with ear rings and sit it on my mantle for luck! He's on another planet from the rest of us! It's just sick how good he is!! LOL

dfreeman writes:

tngeoff - did you say you were going back to LA soon? I remember the last time I stayed there. The Democratic National Convention was being held there and the only hotel left was in Inglewood (A Super 8 if I'm not mistaken). My brother-in-law (who is from the UK) and I walked across the street to a store and were made fun of for being from the old country and the south! On the way back to the hotel we saw a car chase where someone carjacked a... and get this... a Ford Aspire. They then proceeded to circle back and forth from Hawthorne to the airport for the next 3 hours! We sat on the balcony eating popcorn and taking bets on when he would come back by the room! LOL Then we had someone knocking on the door at 3am looking for Tyrone (who was next door) so he could get his fix! Everytime I go out there it's like watching the Springer show and for some sick reason it's entertainment for me!! LOL

dfreeman writes:

pdhuff - that's funny too!

GerryOP writes:

tngeoff and pdhuff -

I just couldn't resist any longer. I think it is hilarious how some of these guys can't see what Kaplan is doing.

Oh, well, ignorance is bliss and there are a lot of blissful posters on here!

Be well ya'all! If we make it through September ...

Tuscaloosa John wouldn't need a bodyguard if he would JUST.... LEAVE.... TOWN....

I wish he would write a hack job on Spurrier like he did on Fulmer just to see what Spurrier would say about Adams. THAT would be fun to watch.

tngeoff - My Mother-in-law lives in Santa Maria, so one of my favorite places to go out there is Santa Barbara! I have been out there a gazillion times and never once been to SD! Pretty cool taking the trip up around wine country! I never get tired of driving along Highway 1 either!! I think it's hilarious when the people outside of LA always say you can't pay them to go TO LA!! LOL What kind of seminars do you do anyway! I've seen you mention that, and never asked!

DarthVol writes:

See what happened Kaplan? You sent this column out as food for the wolves. We only nibbled at the bait because as it turns out...we're really cannibals.

dfreeman writes:

tngeoff - I already knew that! My wifes cousin decided to take me through a tour of Inglewood, Watts, Compton, and Long Beach! All because he wanted to see where things were he had seen on TV. All of which he did AFTER he had my lucky rear in his car! I WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!

auttat writes:

Haha! Kaplan, maybe the pic should be of you. You do in fact ok what gets printed, right?

LongtimeVol writes:

It is pretty rich for any of Fulmers's supporters to accuse Kaplan or anyone else of having thin skin. They mimic Fulmer's behavior in that regard, for he is very thin skinned to use their term. As someone else pointed out, winning against the league's elite (Georgia, Florida, LSU, Auburn and likely Alabama within a few years) more often than losing to them would quiet most people down. That is the winning percentage that earns respect. I don't think anyone really expects us to win every game every year, despite that red herring that the supporters allege is the impossible standard the detractors require. I am just tired of losing to the upper echelon of the SEC more often than we beat them. It starts with Florida.

LiveFaith writes:

Hey KNS. You look like a bunch of idiots for making light of the fact that your sports editor is characterless. Just replace Adams and your reputation will jump positively overnight.

Just keep boycotting Adam's articles and the hit counters will finally win the day. Plenty of good articles on KNS w/o having your decency assaulted.

dfreeman writes:

tngeoff - that's funny! They actually have maps for that. I'll just stay north of LA from now on! Hard to imagine all those Lakers fans driving to the old forum isn't it? Kind of like going to Memphis without a flack jacket! LOL How often do you get to Atlanta to do seminars? That's about all my schedule will allow until after October.

TommyJack writes:

Geoff: OK..near SA,,,will advise.

CoverOrange writes:

My 2 cents:
The national media is putting out stories on Tebow because he is/has been actually doing something unusual during the off season. Plus, the drum beat has started for a double Heisman.

KNS realizes that they will have a plethora of stories on UT players, coaches, etc. coming in a about 6-7 weeks. Right now the staff is probably taking vacation in anticipation after a busy football/basketball/spring football year.

Lastly. The postings had to be a factor in GVX winning the EPpy. Want to show your displeasure? Boycott July 1.

TommyJack writes:

Is there some good reason that I'm missing that would make me want to boycott GVX/KNS??

TommyJack writes:

Geoff: I get it. Majority = 3 monkeys....at least the hear & see part.

Volchaz writes:

At least Kaplan had the spell check on this time. No problem with SEC articles, but how about a balance. Most here wouldn't flinch about an MMA article on this site, but at least one UT article to choose from would be NICE, would be GREAT. You missed the forest for the trees....
