Alda wins singles title in Texas

Rising Tennessee sophomore Rosalía Alda posted a dominating performance at the Texas Summer Grand Slam this past weekend, dropping just one set en route to claiming the singles title at Texas A&M's Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station.

The Round Rock, Texas, native also teamed up with Alexandra Adams to reach the semifinals of

doubles

before bowing out against the top-seeded duo of Vanderbilt recruit Heather Steinbauer and Illinois signee Amy Allin.

Alda, who was seeded ninth, opened up singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Sydney Bell in the Round of 64 before taking out Rutgers commitment Leonora Slatnick, 7-5, 6-1, and fifth-seeded Charlotte Calhoun, 6-3, 6-1, to advance to the quarterfinals where she defeated fourth-seeded Steinbauer, 6-1, 6-2.

In the semifinals, Alda dropped the first set against top-seeded Lilly Kimbell, before roaring back for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory.

In the championship match, Alda easily dispatched No. 2-seeded Hideko Tachibana, 6-1, 6-4.
