be ready for What?...another UT victory over an overrated tiger team
Volssux writes:
Overrated? As a Tiger fan I will continue to lose to ut and play late into March while you ut fans sit and watch the games why you choke on a nasty orange!! I still can't believe you are happy to beat the Tigers, lose to Vandy and peak before the SEC tourney starts. Well if that makes you happy then you can watch Memphis go for another year in the Elite Eight or better.
Pearl4pres writes:
Tiger high didnt win the national championsip last year, so it doesnt matter how far they went.
utucla writes:
Only Tiger High fans brag about choking a national championship game. If you lose in the first round or in the championship game, you still end up like everyone else. There is NO substitute for winning it all. Even a final four appearance s*cks if you lose. Just ask UNC and UCLA if they were happy just getting to the final four.
tigervol9802 writes:
If memory serves me correctly, won't UT/Gonzaga be played in Nashville?

welp....we do still have to prove in in the tourney's, as to this point, we haven't come close....i'll take a 13th seed from an average regular season if we get in from winning the sec tourney.....the final 4 would be even better. that said, we should have quite the team next year...we should be alot better because of one word...."athletes".....
overatedvols writes:
utucla, your post is typical vol... this would only come from a fan of a team that can't get past the sweet 16. You can't get past 16 so being in the championship game isn't good. So, I guess next year if you go to the tournament and make the final 4 ... you were no better than the teams that lost in the first round. Only from a vol fan such nonsense would come. We still have several good players left from last years team and some very good recruits coming in. I wouldn't get too confident. Something tells me Memphis will be ahead of the vols in the polls all next season.....again.
UTVols1698 writes:
I'm lookin forward to beating Gonzaga again after hearing all this talk about them being a final 4 team. They will not be able to keep up. I'd also enjoy watching us beat the Defending champs and another W against Memphis will be nice, although not that big of a deal seeing as how we own them in 'their sport'
UTVols1698 writes:
This team will aslo bea A LOT different than the teams that have exited in the sweet 16, we will rely less on 3 point shooting and more on athleticism, 3 point shots dont fall sometimes, athleticism doesn't let you down. Enough talk from memphis fans on the UT site, I'm not on yours pointing out that you dont even have a winning record against Tennessee even though y'all are so 'great' in basketball
DandyVol writes:
Memphis fans: Welcome to our site, just please keep remarks on a friendly basis. We know you are here because UT is becoming a real power team and we represent a real threat to your position, otherwise you wouldn't be here, but would be on your own site or some other schools site. Question... If UC had retained Bob Huggins and remained in CUSA, do you still think you would be at the top of CUSA? Book a game with WVa to find out. Go Vols!
b_neas writes:
Enough of the back and forth with Memphis fans. Yes, you had a better season than UT and, yes you had a better post season. Still, head to head, it has to eat at you that you can not beat Pearl. Seems pretty simple to me why all the banter?
CoverOrange writes:
DandyVol, the reason some Memphis fans are here is because some Vol fans sallied over to the Commercial Appeal pulled down their pants and McBrimiated themselves. Some Memphis fans felt obliged to return the favor. Fortunately, a few Memphis fans and Vol fans are more 99gatorish.

Ya'lls biggest game of the year was UT. You got beat by a football school. It doesn't matter how far you got in the big dance if you didn't win it. No one remembers who came in second. Second is just the first loser. Ya'll have a Great program and I think you are headed in the right direction. Everyone is looking forward to our meeting again this year so just sit back and enjoy the game it should be GREAT!!! And yes I think we will beat ya'll AGAIN.

Funny, the last time I was chanting overrated is when Tennessee punked Memphis in their own house.
Face it, it's a Big Orange state from the Bristol Motor Speedway to the FedEx Forum and no amount of whining from fans of a second rate program is going to change that.

How come people use the excuse that if you play for the NC and lose you might as well have lost in the first round yet use the excuse that although Fulmer loses the SEC title game at least we're there playign for it.
Sounds like a double standard coming across the boards here. Either give Tiger High credit where it is due or admit we've not won a SEC title in almost 10 years with Fulmer at the helm and that is not cutting it.
Good day all.

VOL FANS LISTEN UP! Some of you (not all) continue to demean what the Tigers accomplished last year. UTK"s BB light is shining and things look good for your program. But your words will come back to haunt you if you make it as far as Memphis did last year. You will be proud of your team and even tho they might lose, you will still support them (hopefully). If you are that lucky and yes it takes talent and luck to make it to the final game..but lose..people are going to be all over you with your own statements. What goes round ..comes round.

msu83, are you going to give some of your fellow Tigers fans the same advice? Much of what you see on here is a result of posters like overrated demeaning every accomplishment that the Vols had last year as well.
No doubt, your team had a terrific year and should be congratulated for that Final Four run. However, for a program with the recent woeful history that the Vols endured under Houston, O'Neill, and a lesser extent with Peterson, the Vols have come pretty far as well. And given the national exposure and success in recruiting that Pearl has provided, there is no reason to think that we have hit our ceiling yet.

I'm with you. The Memphis Game should be ESPN Gameday. Playing in Primetime, later in the season, with weeks worth of hype from ESPN and the whole Gameday crew in Knoxville would have been a blast. CBS in January doesn't have the same feel to it.

FACT TIME FELLAS:
1. It took Cheater Cal EIGHT years to get the pussycats to a Final Four. Anybody wanna bet significant sums that BP gets there in less - and will know when to take a TO!?
2. MemPISS played TWO meaningful games last season - and LOST THEM BOTH!!
3. Signee Tyreke Evans will be featured in a documentary film, Gunnin' For That No. 1 Spot, - odd, cause his best SHOOTING obviously isn't done on the basketball floor.
4. TEAM C-USA - coached by Cheater Cal and led by SEVEN MEMPISS players - LOST THREE games in SIX days to a bunch of CHINESE!!! And the last one was a 23 pt BLOWOUT! And MEMPISS folks even DARE to talk about the upcoming season???????
5. Finally, can you MEMPISS people spell N-E-G-E-D-U?????? It's pronounced like this - "I just got my fatboy A&$ KICKED BY BRUCE PEARL AGAIN!!!!!" What's that fella's name you hired to get this kid - is it Josh or Judy or somethin' like that????
JANUARY 24!!!!! THE MEMPISS NIGHTMARE LIVES!!!!

Funny how you boys bang your chest over your schedule and the highest ranked team you will play next year is, dare I say, MEMPHIS (the team most trashed on this board). According to early rumours, Memphis is playing a killer non-conf schedule again too. Makes the season kind of fun. Negedu said it not me, "Memphis is everybodies national championship game". Careful what you wish for.
Happy that you vol boys are so excited over the coming season. Congrats on signing Negedu, he is a good kid. He is good, but is he good enough?
Now isn't it interesting that Pearl is agreeable to play Marquette in Nashville but not Memphis? An evenly divided house in Nashville every year would be great for all the fans. Mike Hamilton sure doesn't want any part of that, huh? Any place, any where, any time? Yeah right.
chkrbrd...We sure appreciate your concern of the post basketball careers of the Memphis players. Many are working today for FedEX, where all Memphis players intern during the offseason, one is dentist, 13 of the last 16 graduated and those that haven't are in the NBA or playing abroad. I dare say that R.Carney, S.Williams, C.Douglas-Roberts, Derrick Rose, & Joey Dorsey will be flying around next season in private jets, playing in NBA and cashing huge checks! As for Duke Crews & L.Smith, "do want fries with that burger, mon?"

The_VOL, Cal accomplished in 8 short years what Pearl will probably never accomplish.
Which two meaningful games are you speaking of last year.. the UCLA game and the Texas game? Or maybe it's the Georgetown game and Michigan state game? No, how about Arizona game and Oklahoma game. Gonzaga? USC? which two? This coming from the fan of a team that struggled with American and went into overtime against Butler. Well.. guess I shouldn't say anything..those are two big time programs right.??? No???
Don't think you'll be talking bad about Tyreke after he's done with you guys next Jan.
They lost to a chinese team..yes.. the chinese olympic team that has Yao Ming on it and also they were miserable there and could not eat the food. One player lost 12 lbs in a week.
Can I spell the name of your new player.. Let me see...
Nag-edu..is that it? NAG edu.
Memphis in a blowout on Jan 24. Poor vols only had one thing to brag about.. they beat Memphis by 4 points.. what will be able to brag about after Memphis whops up on ya next season???
Memphis, best team in the state. Always has been always will be. Vandy 2nd and Tenn. a distant 3rd.
mike#208050 writes:
the_vol... what is your problem? Do you have a Memphis fixation?
Tell the whole story about Calipari's NCAA history at Memphis. Two year in the Elite 8 in a row followed by the final four and championship game this year. Not his first trip to the Final Four either. I know this doesn't matter to guy who cherishes his "sweet sixteen" T-shirt collection. Now, just what has Bruce done in that tournament so far?
Calipari took a team to China, true. Played the Chinese Olympic Team. Did it without Chris Douglas-Roberts, Derrick Rose or Joey Dorsey. He also took the UTEP & Tulsa coaches, some of their players as well. No incoming freshman were allowed to go, some dumb NCAA rule. Your remarks only show what a low class red-neck trailer park hick you are! Crawl back in your single-wide.
Only two meaningful games all year? (a 4 pt loss to UT & OT loss to Kansas, I assume) I guess dropping UConn, Oklahoma, USC, Arizona, Gonzaga, Siena, Georgetown, Cincinnati, Miss St., Michigan St., TEXAS & UCLA on their collective heads weren't meaningful enough for your dumb a**. You are just plain stupid!
