Lauren Gibson, who has committed to Tennessee, was selected Gatorade Maryland Softball Player of the Year.
The 5-foot-4 junior pitcher finished 17-2 with a 1.23 ERA, recording 165 strikeouts in 120 innings to lead Chesapeake High School (24-2) to a second consecutive Class 4A state championship.
The two-time Baltimore Sun All-Met Player of the Year and three-time Washington Post All-Met First Team selection, pitched a no-hitter in the state championship game.
Gibson, who also plays third base, hit .500 with eight home runs, 29 RBIs, 34 runs scored and 16 stolen bases.
"Her competitive juices are at such a level that she's going to do whatever it takes, whether at bat, running the bases or in the circle of making sure that that is not going to be the part that lets us down,' said Chesapeake coach Don Ellenberger said in a release. "It's her will to succeed that puts her a little bit ahead of the other ballplayers."
