Hernandez showing control in Cape Cod

Tennessee pitcher Nick Hernandez is showing the same control he showed all spring for the Vols, picking up a Cape Cod Baseball League Pitcher of the Week Award.

Hernandez pitched seven innings in the Cotuit Kettlers' 4-1 victory against the Brewster Whitecaps, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out eight with no walks.

The rising junior left-hander ranked fourth nationally this past season with 0.97 walks allowed per nine innings.

After seven exhibition games, rising sophomore Kentrail Davis is the top hitter at the USA Baseball National Trials.

He's batting .480 (12-for-25) with three home runs and 10 RBIs. He has seven runs scored, five walks and has struck out just once.

UT pitcher Bryan Morgado, also trying to earn a spot with the USA National Team, has had two relief appearances and allowed two earned runs on three hits, a walk and three strikeouts.

The final 22-man roster will be announced Tuesday.

Meanwhile, UT catcher Blake Forsythe has five home runs and 12 RBI for Thomasville in the Coastal Plain League. UT outfielder P.J. Polk is hitting .260 with one home run and eight RBIs for La Crosse in the Northwoods League. Third baseman Cody Brown is hitting .347 with five doubles and five RBIs for Woodstock of the Valley Baseball League. Pitcher Danny Wiltz has a 0.00 ERA, 12 strikeouts and two saves in 5 2/3 innings of work for Waynesboro of the Valley Baseball League.
