236 athletes on Thornton Center academic honor roll
The University of Tennessee Athletic Departments announced Friday that 236 student-athletes, including more than 50 football players, earned a place on the Thornton Center academic honor roll in the spring of 2008. These honor students account for more than 48 percent of the student-athletes at Tennessee. To earn a spot, a student-athlete must obtain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
“We’re very proud of the hard work and effort all of our student-athletes put into their studies,” said Eric Brey, director of the Thornton Center for Student Life and Academics. “This group of students has shown excellence in the classroom and we’re excited to have so many receive this honor.”

Where is Nicky Anosike??????
She only carried a 3.95 for all four years, or close to that anyway!

Congrats to all the student-athletes on the list.
The promising part is seeing several starters / key players from the football team on the list. The discouraging part is not seeing ANY of the starters / key players from men's basketball on the list. (I guess I shouldn't stress any - Brian Williams is there, and I really like him. I hope he doesn't get lost in all of the new talent coming in. He's very impressive for someone that has only played a couple of years.)
Kudos to Pat / women's basketball as usual, and to those in all the other sports.

I think Brian Williams is going to really step up this year and make a big impact in quite a few games.
But next year he will be a primary impact player. He is far better than he looks, he just needs to foul less, or learn how to hide them better.

This list has India Chiles a softball player on the list, but she went to the pro's last year.
It also has Brittany Fulmer on the Swimming and Diving Squad, and she graduated last year.
Anyone else seeing these anomalies??????????????????

Former athletes that are still completing their degrees or are getting masters degrees that they started while still active are included on the honor roll, as they are still part of the athletics departments' graduation rates and APR scores. That explains the appearance of athletes such as Chiles, Amado, Fulmer, etc.

Fifty football players on the honor roll! That is outstanding.
What a boon to the University the Thornton Center has been. Great job UT!
