Alouettes of CFL release Mahelona

The Montreal Alouettes of the CFL made their final cuts Saturday and released former University of Tennessee defensive tackle Jesse Mahelona.

Mahelona joined the Alouettes on June 14.

The 6-foot, 310-pound Mahelona was a fifth-round draft choice of the Tennessee Titans in 2006 and had 21 tackles and a sack in 10 games as a rookie.

Mahelona was released by the Titans before the 2007 season started. He was signed by Miami in October but was released a week later by the Dolphins. He joined Atlanta on Nov. 20 and was inactive in four of five games before he was released by the Falcons.

geoff,

I think you're thinking of Jonathon Mapu. The thing I remember most about Mahelona is his helmet throwing incident after the Vandy loss in 2005.

atvolfan#654430 writes:

You're both wrong, it wasn't Mahelona who threw the helmet, it was another guy from HI, a giant offensive lineman who's name escapes me.

txvolsfan writes:

atvolfan is correct it was the offensive lineman who threw the helmet. He was in the same class as Mahelona

Toieina(SP) lost his cool and our support after Vandy game helmet toss. Jessee played hard even when hurt. Hiresanders came with the usual negativity to no ones surprise. Jessee evidently due to shortness and girth has probably put major stress on knees, possibly his back. Hope he turns it around ,but if little Aloettes in Canada won't take that only leaves Arena or retire.

I don't know who tossed a helmet or who tossed a salad but I do remember Mahelona tossing around opposing players and am shocked that he can't even make it in the CFL!! I don't know what happened but I remember we were sweating if he would even leave early after his junior year!

He was a beast at UT but according to Titans
camp he lacked the fundamentals to be successful at the next level.

He relied on his size in college but technique wasn't good, plus his work ethic not strong.

The other player from Hawaii that you are referring to is Albert Toeina. It was after the Vanderbilt loss in 2005 that he threw his helmet and was accused of spitting at a cameraman as he walked off the field.

hiresanders..........there is bunch of them, but you are the most negative poor mouthing idiot to post on this site. Ease up, man. Put you a little reda%# salve where it bothers you and your brain and mouth might engage simultaneously. Freakin' armchair quarterback!!!! If you need to vent your animosity, do it sitting on the toilet, but if you can't say anything positive just keep quiet.

Vols45, It isn't the Redneck in him. Rednecks are loyal, to loyal many times.

I think Jesse represented Us well as a Vol, I hope it gets better for him!

LadyVolsEightTimes..........it isn't redneck that I referred to. It is red#$@....or to make it easy for you to understand it is where the sun never shines. That's where he needs to put the salve.........where you wipe it you can reach it. Did you make it all the way through the required 2 years of English??
