Defensive tackle Chris Bonds from Richland Northeast High School in Columbia, S.C., was expected to visit Tennessee today and Tuesday, according The State in Columbia.
The 6-foot-4, 283-pound Bonds will make the trip with his sister, who is participating in a softball camp in Knoxville.
Bonds is also strongly considering Alabama, South Carolina, Southern Cal, Michigan, Miami and Notre Dame, according to the report.
Defensive tackle is UT’s highest priority in the 2009 class.
The Vols hold commitments from three linemen, all of whom project to play offense in college.
UT signed only one defensive tackle in 2008 — Montori Hughes from Siegel High in Murfreesboro.

Not sure if Savage O or anyone else has thrown this information out there yet but word from SC is that Chris Bonds is making an unofficial visit today to Knoxville. He is a 4* DT from Columbia and is the 9nth rated DT according to Rivals.
Just kiddin' around Josh.

turner_c writes:
I've read the primary reason he is visiting is because his sister wants to play softball for UT.
I really don't care what got him here, we will get to show the program, facilities, and he gets to meet "the family". If they don't visit, you ain't in it. Kinda wish Stokes was here :) JMO

We need to get this young man to commit. We are losing too many battles to Alabama,Southern Cal and Notre Dame...even in our own state.

Don't miss the point of his visit... With his sister to a softball camp... Have you noticed that Alabama is listed as being considered by every top player that Vols are interested in.. They seem to be having lot of success with lot of players. Vols have dragged behind in the recruiting of defensive line people for some time, and short stuff (Chavis) is not a recruiter. Never has been and never will be.
2008 season will be like a fork in the road for the Vols, and help us if we take the wrong fork, for it could be a long dry spell of just so-so football with the Vols.
philfan writes:
It would be nice to get this guy Bonds from South Carolina. Once he makes a visit, he won't want to go anywhere else. Also, one less player for Spurrier to coach up.
GreerVol22 writes:
dang, if this guy could lose 30 pounds he could be a linebacker
volsoutwest writes:
You are kidding me. A defensive player. Chris if you ever come on a game day there is no way you could go anywhere else. It's electric.

Well now i guess all the folks who have been begging for a interior lineman can be happy now. Lol...I'll have to ask around about this guy down here in S.C.

He comes from the same school that produced five star DB Gary Gray that commited to Notre Dame in 2007. I noticed he had Notre Dame listed...hope that doesnt sway his decision!

Well ... can his sister play DL?
pdhuff#552644 writes:
GerryOp, my sister was mean enuf to pay linebacker afore she married a doctor. Being landed gentry seemed to calm her a tad.
Still give her a wide berth in confrontations.
Still a huge Vol fan even though living on Amelia Island, surrounded by Gators and Dawgs.

I really think that all the negative posters are not Vols fans. They just pretend to be fans.
UTVols1698 writes:
Top recruits get paid... why not pay a not so top recruit who is a top DT, its not like anyone plays DT in High School anymore anyway, so pick a top 5 guy give him star QB money and he will be easy to sign, just pick a guy who can keep his mouth shut, everyone cheats its not about recruiting rules its about winning games, might as well.

99gator 6:58. True, they have strayed. You could not dynamite my sister to my land of non-neon and no-Visa. She orbits quite a bit higher on the social scale than a sod-buster. Amelia Island is nearly out of Fla, though. Easy drive to Largest Cocktail party.
My daughter, however, loves it up here when she visits. Doesn't care much for the local wages, though. Seems to think as a minor exec with large communication company in Miami she brings home a little more.
Strange....

Read this morning that tOSU already has 20 verbals for 2009 class. They're claiming it will be a #1 recruiting year for them. Go figure, a team that lost the last two NCGs, badly.
Had a brother-in-law that did exec time in Miami (for the money of course). Couldn't wait to reach the border on his way out to roll down the window and give the one finger salute to the whole city he hated it so much.

thesavageorange writes:
Believe it or not Chavis has made a nice impression on a DT out of Tallahassee.Corey Gaines, the 15th rated DT according to rivals, said ole Johnny boy is putting in work. From fla website:
One school that you have to consider has a very good shot at being on that list will be the Tennessee Volunteers. The Volunteers offered just recently, about a month ago according to Gaines and needless to say, they have already made an early impression on the FV Top 100 member.
"Tennessee defensive coordinator John Chavis is the main guy handling my recruitment. He lays it very clearly on the table about what he's looking for, but even more so what he expects out of his players. I really like his demeanor when we talk because I know no matter the subject Coach Chavis can really understand what's going on. What I mean is there are some people that can only talk about the serious stuff, but with him it's just not that way. I'm still learning more about the program and I'm interested in taking a visit over there probably in the summer.
"Right now, I just need to break things down with the coaches and really knock my list down some to probably a top five or something like that. I don't have a favorite or a leader yet. However, I would say that Iowa State and Tennessee are probably two of the schools recruiting me the hardest right now."

Savage O, figured you'd already mentioned Bonds. Oh well, at least I scooped Josh.
Interesting news out of Bama, it'll take what....2 hours for Saban to make enough money to secure bond for Johns?
Did you ever hear anything else about John Drew who backed off his commit with GaTech?
thesavageorange writes:
invisiblekid, Unfotunately Cutt grabbed Drew, and he is headed to Duke.A 4* DT to Duke?????Before anyone starts the DT stuff, UT hadn't offered Drew for whatever reason.Neither had most of the other SEC schools.
