Tennessee sophomore Jamie Saffer is headed to the NCAA women's swimming championships. She swam her first NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1 minute, 01.81 seconds) at the Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga. The time was the third fastest in Lady Vols history.
"What a great day," assistant swimming coach Jen Arndt said. "We struggled a little this morning to find our way, but Tricia Weaner really lit it up in the 400 IM with a best time by four seconds. After her swim, the team responded with more best times.
"Everyone did something exceptional tonight. We have learned this season to be tough and use our strength."
Weaner, a freshman, picked up NCAA provisional cuts in the 500 free (4:57.63), 400 IM (4:23.14) and 200 free (1:50.06).
