UT wins 11th in a row, but no title

The fourth-ranked Tennessee softball team made quick work of Nebraska on Sunday morning, beating the Cornhuskers 9-0 in six innings in the final game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga.

The victory gave the Lady Vols (19-1) their 11th win in a row and a tie for the tournament title with Michigan. The Wolverines were crowned champions after four tie-breakers, outscoring UT 22-21 in the five games.

For the second consecutive game, UT hit four doubles and garnered a season-high 14 hits.

Sophomores Huff (three RBIs) and Erinn Webb (RBI, three runs scored) each went 3-for-4. Senior designated player Shannon Doepking was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Senior third baseman Tonya Callahan hit her third home run of the season and program-best 38th of her career to climb within six RBI (198) of breaking the school record of 203 held by former Lady Vol All-American Kristi Durant.

Senior pitcher Megan Rhodes (8-0) worked three innings in relief of freshman starter Ashton Ward, striking out five and allowed no runs on three hits to complete the combined shutout. Ward gave up three hits and struck out two in three innings.
