Vols get commitment from Hall

Tennessee’s 63-60 victory over Kentucky on Sunday might not have been its most impressive of the season, but it was enough to convince Kenny Hall to play basketball for the Vols starting in 2009.

Hall, a 6-foot-8 junior power forward from Redan High School in Stone Mountain, Ga., has verbally committed to the Vols, he said Sunday night.

“I just felt really comfortable there today,” said Hall, who was at the game. “I like Tennessee’s style of play.”

According to rivals.com, Hall has been offered by Kentucky, UCLA, Southern Cal, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Clemson.

OK If KY and UCLA have offered him, you have to feel good about his skill set. Welcome aboard, Kenny!

Scout has him as # 62 overall, #10 center and ****. Apparently he and another post, 6' 11" Mason Plumlee, of Arden, NC, were both being recruited by Duke. When Plumlee took the Dookie offer, Kenny decided to cast his lot with us, as Coach K didn't offer him during a face to face visit. Kenny has been a 20 ppg, 10 rpg in his junior year high school games, and travels with the Georgia All Stars. Junior Derrick Favors is considered the best player in Georgia, 25 ppg, 18 rpg, and 10 bpg. Why don't we get him, too? Go Vols! SAVol

rivals, scout, whatever. Yes, the people at those places have a job to do and need to make a living.

As with football recruiting, the rankings are for fans. Tommy Tuberville, one of the smarter men in the cocching profession, and the head coach of a 'Little Brother' type school, once sais this, in essence:
"I about lost my job when I let recruiting service rankings influence my recruiting; we are now back in the work of recruiting young men based on character and ability to play the game and desire to improve".

I got news for you Mike. Beating Kentucky is always impressive. And I couldn't care less what this kid's Rivals or Scout rating is if the above mentioned schools have offered him.

I would like the Vols to get 6 total players for the 09' class w/ Hall. The guys I want them to get is...
(info by Rivals)

PG John Wall (#9 overall) 6'3/175
Raleigh (NC) Word Of God Christian Academy
A speedster with the ball.

SF Ari Stewart (#15 overall) 6'7 190
Marietta (GA) Wheeler
Skilled wing can put it on the floor and shoot the three.

G Leslie McDonald (#17 overall) 6'4/195
Memphis (TN) Briarcrest Christian
Do everything guard has a feel for the game.

SG Jon Hood (#39 overall) 6'6/185
Madisonville (KY) Madisonville North Hopkins
Multi-skilled guard with size.

PF Mason Plumlee (#66 overall) 6-10 205
Arden (NC) Christ School
Skilled big man who creates mismatches.

I believe this will be a great class with a year to prepare for primetime after Chism, Ramar, Duke, JP, Tabb, and possibly Tyler (he might already be gone) after they leave

This kid looks like an impressive commit. Naturally the coverage by the KNS has very little detail or insight. Nothing from his high school or AAU coach, no mention of how he stacks up in his state or the nation. It really is sad when you pay for the KNS and have to find your information in other locations. I have read the KNS for over thirty years. I think reading the sports pages of the Journal and Sentinel was really how I learned to read. Over the last two years the sports coverage by the KNS and specifically the recruiting coverage has become marginal at best. If they would simply provide 1/3 of the coverage of Brent Hubbs/Rob Lewis they would be doing a good job. Instead they have two full time recruiting "experts" and several other part timers that do not submitt 1/10 of the coverage of Hubbs/Lewis. Pick it up guys I do not want to pay for someone else to provide me with coverage I all ready pay you for "providing".

At least we aren't getting MTSU rejects in basketball. No need to put a spin on this kid. Go Vols!

Nice pick up, but can he play point? Serious the Vols need a true point guard. zjcvol - There is point guard playing for Memphis Whitestation -Joe Jackson that I know Pearls truly wants, but he is just a Sophomore - 2010 class. His teammate Ferrakohn Hall is a Junior that the Vols are interested in. He is ultra smooth. Not sure if the Vols are close on getting McDonald. I have a friend in Memphis who knows his parents and he might be leaning more to the Tarheels, but it's still early.

I don't guess Tatum is redshirting is he? He hasn't played any since early in the year.

Posted by zjcvols on March 4, 2008 at 5:10 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Tatum is redshirting, he hasn't dressed in uni in a month. budrhon, John Wall is the best PG in the 09' class according to rivals. I have heard about both Jackson and Hall. If they don't get Wall, they will try and get both. I heard Hall is good, but Jackson is a beast. Now with West, at least we have a PG for one year.
