STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State starting free safety Derek Pegues was arrested last week and cited with driving on a suspended driver's license and having an open container of alcohol in his car, both misdemeanors.
Pegues, 21, was stopped at a police checkpoint last Sunday and said he didn't have his driver's license with him. When an officer ran his license number, it came back suspended because of failure to appear for a previous traffic violation, believed to be a seat belt violation.
Pegues also allegedly had an open bottle of beer in his vehicle.
Mississippi State coach Sylvester Croom wouldn't comment on the incident and wouldn't say if he would suspend Pegues.
