Nick Turner, who played tailback and was a record-setting return specialist for the Mississippi State football team in 2002-03, was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder in DeKalb County, Ga.
Turner, 24, is alleged to have facilitated a drug deal that went bad and cost the life of Dermonde Broadus, according to J.T. Ware, a public information officer with the DeKalb police. Ware said Turner is cooperating with the investigation.
Turner signed with Mississippi State in 2002 out of Atlanta but was dismissed in February of 2004.
Turner was a Parade All-American out of Washington High School, considered one of the top prep running backs in the nation. His freshman season in 2002 was cut short by injury and then an arrest. He was suspended for the final five games by then coach Jackie Sherrill after he was charged with passing five counterfeit $100 bills at a Starkville nightclub.
Turner received three years probation and rejoined the team for the 2003 season. He finished his career at Murray State.
