- Game time: 3 p.m. today at Lindsey Nelson Stadium
- Probable pitching matchup: MTSU-Chad Edwards (2-0, 1.17 ERA, RHP) vs. UT-Ty'Relle Harris (0-0, 0.00 ERA, RHP).
- MTSU: The Blue Raiders are a traditional power in the Sun Belt Conference and this season is no different under veteran coach Steve Peterson. MTSU is hitting .343 as a team with a hefty 16 home runs in 11 games. Junior outfielder Nathan Hines leads the way with a .481 average and 20 RBIs. Freshman outfielder/pitcher Bryce Brentz, a South-Doyle High School product, is off to a fast start. The former Cherokee is hitting .318 with a team high five HRs and 19 RBIs. Freshman infielder Justin Miller, a Bearden product, has started three games with a .273 average and a home run.
- Tennessee: The Vols can tune up against MTSU today and Presbyterian College on Wednesday as the SEC season begins this weekend at home against LSU. Harris, a former Pacific player and transfer from Sacramento City College, gets his first start for the Vols after begin cleared for play last weekend. He worked 2 e 2/3 perfect innings against Eastern Michigan in relief on Sunday. Centerfielder Kentrail Davis, who was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday, leads UT with his .438 average, including a home run and 10 RBIs and a team-high .550 on-base percentage. Junior third baseman Cody Brown is hitting .382 with a team-high two HRs and 13 RBIs.
- Series history: Tennessee leads 26-16. The Vols have won the past five and beat the Blue Raiders 2-1 the last time they met in the first game of the 2001 NCAA Knoxville Regional.
