It went down to the wire, but the No. 10-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team (13-2, 2-2 SEC) dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision at No. 18 Florida on Tuesday.
Gator senior Nestor Briceno edged UT senior Kaden Hensel 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 in the deciding match at No. 2 singles.
Florida (8-4, 3-1 SEC) set the stage by sweeping all three doubles matches to take one point into singles competition.
UT's Boris Conkic, Matteo Fago and Jeremy Tweedt won their singles events at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 respectively. J.P Smith dropped his No. 1 singles match to No. 3-ranked Greg Ouellette of Florida, 6-4, 6-4.
The Vols travel to Arkansas on Friday.
Anchor Man: Jonas Persson, a Vols transfer from Arizona, swam anchor on Sweden's winning 400-meter freestyle relay Tuesday at the Euro Swimming Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
The Swedes edged Italy 3:15.41 to 3:15.73.
