Blogger Buzz: With win over Indiana team come Indiana rumors

With a thrilling overtime win over an Indiana team, Butler, what's up next but the resurfacing of the rumors of UT Coach Bruce Pearl being on Indiana University's wish list. See the lead item in our list.

Will he, won't he, I have no clue. I do know whatever happens next, it's been a historic season for Tennessee basketball.

The New York Times and the Washington Post both have positive pieces on Pearl on our list below.

You got to admit, his stock is soaring.

It should be a fabulous game Thursday!

Enjoy the blogger buzz.

Give the coach to Indiana crap a rest. His son is a sophmore on the team. Just because he is on some University's wish list, don't not mean much!

Bruce made a commitment to Tyler's dad....i think he'll keep it.

Pearl will leave in a heart beat if offered the Indiana job. Remember you heard it first here!

@tripper Removed your post for the profanity, but I believe I got your general drift. For the record, I'm not an IU grad and I'm not a native or former resident of Indiana. Pearl will be on the short list of every major team in need of a coach; Hamilton will have to deal with it.

KNS is a piece of crap for letting negative pieces like this on its website. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

I don't know if he'll stay or not. Agreeing w/ an earlier post, I have to believe that if he made a commitment to Tyler's dad, he'll keep it. However, he MUST put this to rest or it will surely be a negative for team chemistry. As I posted on another board, we have not played to our potential since then. Maybe there's a connection and maybe not. He'll never get a better situation or group of fans than the Big Orange! CBP, do the "Les Miles" and put to this to rest.

The "IU rumor alert" blog contains a link to a photograph of Coach Pearl lying across the laps of three orange-clad cuties sitting in a golf cart. I am not offended personally, but it brings to mind what was said of Sgt. Barnes in the movie "Platoon": "the only thing that can kill Barnes (Pearl) is Barnes (Pearl)! There are rumors that Gillespie at KY might like to prey on young coeds, and CBP would do well to tread lightly.

Hamilton should just say no, you can't talk to him.
Also, Tyler Smith should stay.
Why? This is Lofton's team, and he's a late 1st rounder on the draft. A couple bad workouts and he's out of the land of guaranteed money.
Next year, this will be his team, he will be the focus point, with young guns being added, he can be the premiere SF/PF in the nation and become a lottery pick.

Bruce's pics with the coeds prove he is a stud.

Here's an analysis that I did regarding TN and UL.

Below is a comparison of the overall rivals.com ranking of the seven players who play the most minutes on each team.

I also analyze the overall team ranking by adding the rankings of all the players.

I'm not stupid enough to think that this is a logical way of picking a game, but I thought some of you might find it interesting.

It's funny that Lofton and JuJuan are the best players on our team, yet were the lowest recruited out of high school (BTW, I assigned walk-ons an automatic score of 500; Luckily both teams only had an equal amount).

*LOWER IS BETTER*
TN
--------------------------------------------
W Chism recruited @ #34 **** Forward

T Smith recruited @ #43 **** Forward

C Lofton recruited @ #146 *** Guard

J Smith recruited @ #500??? 0* Guard

R. Smith recruited @ #20 ***** Guard

D. Crews recruited @ #26 ***** Forward

JP. Prince recruited @ #21 ***** Guard

TENNESSEE SCORES A 790

UL
----------------------------------------
T. Williams recruited @ #111 *** Forward

J. Smith recruited @ #82 **** Guard

J. Palacios recruited @ #30 ***** Forward

E. Clark recruited @ #22 ***** Forward

D. Padgett recruited @ #500 0* Center

E. Sosa recruited @ #74 **** Guard

A. Mcgee recruited @ #107 *** Guard

LOUISVILLE SCORES A 926

If we go by this, TN should win by approximately 13 points.

The only matchup that doesn't work in our favor is at Forward, where Louisville has two ***** players.

GO VOLS!!!

As I have said elsewhere, I am about 70-30 that CBP will stay. However, some of the reasons some of you have given for this don't stand close scrutiny. First of all, Steve is a freshman, not a sophomore. In any case, it is settled NCAA precedent that if a coach gets a job at another school, his son may follow him and be eligible immediately at the new school. Second, if Tyler decides to come out early for the NBA draft, which could happen if he gets reliable info that he would be picked in the first round, CBP will have fulfilled his promise to Billy Smith and can leave with a clear conscience on that score. Third, although CBP has said repeatedly that he will fulfill his contract with UT, that contract DOES contain a buy-out clause--if CBP or his new school is willing to pay the buy-out, he can leave and still be said to have fulfilled his contract. Personally, I think he should and will stay, but it is his decision and he will make it--either way--without much regard for what I or any other fan feels about it, and rightly so. Also, LazhilUT, I suppose Hamilton COULD say no to IU's request, if they make it, but that almost never happens. That is a sort of unwritten rule in the world of athletic directors.
In any case, there is still a lot of business to take care of THIS season, and I think CBP, Tyler, and everyone else concerned cares more about that right now, as do I. Let's just enjoy this historic moment, and hope there are a few more, and let tomorrow take care of itself. GO VOLS!!! PLUCK THE BIRDS!!! ON TO SAN ANTONIO!!!

I wouldnt worry about this. Im sure Indiana has Bruce Pearl, Roy Williams, Dean Smith, and Rick Pitino on their wish list as well.

Indiana still thinks of itself as "The meca of basketball" when in actuality it hasnt been more than a second rate bball school for awhile. They go after the big dog, then realize they arent the indiana of old and settle for a mid major hopefull, my guess is davidsons head coach or possobly WKU. Going to the sweet sixteen always means big things for those coaches....look at CBP

go vols

jacksonvol: "Bruce's pics with the coeds prove he is a stud."
No, they prove that he needs to make better decisions now that he's in the media constantly. I agree with jawbreaker. He needs to think through what could be huge repercussions (on several levels) of what may appear to be an insignificant decision at the moment. I like Pearl. I don't want to see his undoing for something like this.

Peral does not want to go, when he first got here one thing that drew him was summet being here. He wanted to make men's bball as big here as the lady vols! I think he's on his way.
