Arkansas linebacker Fairchild suspended

Player charged on suspicion of beating a woman

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas linebacker Freddie Fairchild was suspended from the team after he was charged on suspicion of beating a woman.

He was arrested Monday, and later released, on misdemeanor charges of suspicion of third-degree battery and false imprisonment. His arraignment is April 23.

Coach Bobby Petrino said Tuesday the 21-year-old player was suspended pending a review of whether he violated team rules.

“He will not be allowed to participate in any team activities during the suspension,” Petrino said. “We will allow the legal process to take its course on this matter and Freddie will be provided the appropriate support during this time.”

Fairchild “attacked (the woman) causing injuries to her head, face, extremities and pelvis,” according to a preliminary probable cause statement from a Fayetteville police detective. The complaint said she reported that he would not allow her to leave for several hours.

Fairchild has been in a “domestic relationship” with the women intermittently for over a year, the statement said.

He started 11 games last season as a redshirt sophomore and led the Razorbacks with 4.5 sacks.

Oh, Johnny......
Mr. No Credibility Adams, here's another case to blame Fulmer for.
Just remember Johnny boy, you opened this can of worms with your preposterous, insensitive, obtuse article that doesn't need to be forgotten until you are banished.

I spoke with a head coach at a lower ranked school and he said he does not have the problems Tenn, Ala, Ark, SC, etc. have because at a lower level he can be more selective in his recruiting. He said 92% of his players come from a two parent home, where the larger schools are lucky to have 40% from a two parent home. The "Win at all costs" so to speak causes coaches to take chances with recruits.

Got to be CPF's fault!! John Adams is torn between cleaning up the SC program & the ole ball coach and now heading to Arky to clean the scum from their program. The KNS had me believing that only CPF and the VOLS had problems. Hmmmmm... GO VOLS

Hay guy, your suppose to do your tackling on the field not your girlfriend. I'm so proud of our guys for growing up this year! Maybe we can be the example to other teams.

This Adams bashing is getting very old.You have stated your displeasure with John Adams but it is now time to let it go.Everyone is entitled to post their thoughts and beliefs, including Adams. We all know the problems Tennessee and other schools are having with their student athletes and will continue to have as long as schollarships are awarded to the class of people that most athletes fall under.A great many of these students have difficulity reading and writing and have never had respect for anyone, including themselves. They are,for the most part, thugs, alcoholics and drug users long before they reach college. There are also many really good student atheletes who deserve their schollarships. If the world as a whole continues like it is now, the problems with atheletes will get worse at all schools, instead of better.

drothe has a good point. 3/4 of every SEC football team would not be in school unless it was for football.

What this, the South Carolina player story earlier, and all the earlier ones just go to prove it well past time for the NCAA to step in and start an enforcement program that applies to all member schools. The coaching staffs and schools discipline has not worked. These athletes need to know there are mandatory consequences for criminal actions. If the NCAA mandates academic standards, why should they not also have a conduct standard when it comes to violations of penal laws?

Adams: Arkansas football needs a change at the top

Posted by orangebloodgmc on March 26, 2008 at 11:52 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Adams bashing getting old? That's funny. Let the dumbax leave and then we'll quit pointing out what an incompetent fool he is. He has always been a bad writer, biased and arrogant, way before his most recent pontificating. Gee, maybe its time for a change at the top of the kns sports staff.
