BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Country music singer Sara Evans and former University of Alabama quarterback Jay Barker announced their engagement on his sports talk show Tuesday, saying they plan to wed this summer.
The two, both divorced with seven children between them, have been dating since last year.
"You're the best I've ever met," Barker told Evans, speaking by telephone on the morning show Barker co-hosts on WJOX-FM.
"You're so sweet. I feel the same way about you. Let's get married," Evans said.
The wedding is planned for this summer, they said, but neither revealed the date.
Evans now lives in Nashville, Tenn., but said she wants to move to Birmingham, where Barker lives. She has made several appearances on the radio show in recent months.
The 37-year-old singer filed for divorce from husband Craig Schelske in October 2006 after 13 years of marriage. The divorce was completed last September.
Barker, 35, led Alabama to its last national championship in 1992 and hosts a morning radio show in Birmingham.
Barker, who also is divorced, has four children while Evans has three.
Evans made her recording debut in 1997 and her 2000 album "Born to Fly" went double-platinum. Her hits include "Perfect," ''Suds in the Bucket" and "Real Fine Place to Start."
She was a contestant on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" but pulled out when she filed for divorce.

I feel fully informed now. And this is on GoVolsXtra, why? Seems more fitting for the entertainment section. Further proof of the deterioration of our once proud flagship.

It's Coach Fulmer's fault. If he had not gotten involved, Adams would have Evans all to himself...

I swear Barker played for the Cheating Crimson for nigh on eight years. I never thought we'd be rid of him.

Does it make anyone else feel old to read that Jay Barker is 35 years old?

Too Bad Ms. Evans couldn't have found a good Tennessee man rather than settle for a Bammer Moron!

Thanks govolsxtra.com for keeping me up to date with former Bamer players and their wedding plans. Are we invited?

Actually, Barker's ex was learned how to improve her stroke with a tennis instructor. Good luck too them. If you kept up with the story of Sara's divorce, she was married to a real creep. Hope it works out.
