LSU's Perrilloux off suspension

BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux returned from suspension and could be allowed to practice with the team by Monday.

Perrilloux, who finished last season as heir apparent for the starting job, must make up six workouts he missed while on team suspension before he can practice, coach Les Miles said Thursday. If Perrilloux finishes those workouts by this weekend, he could get back on the field next week and might play in the Tigers’ spring game on April 5.

“Ryan has a chance to play in the game if he does the things he should be doing,” Miles said. “He will be allowed to compete fully for the position.”

Miles suspended Perrilloux in February, shortly before spring practice began, for unspecified team violations. Perrilloux’s former high school coach, who remains close to the quarterback and his family, has said Perrilloux missed a mandatory team meeting, then missed classes to attend his father’s funeral without notifying coaches.

It was the third suspension for Perrilloux, who was considered the favorite to succeed Matt Flynn after leading LSU to two victories — including the Southeastern Conference championship game — when Flynn, a senior, was injured during the 2007 season.

Andrew Hatch, a transfer from Harvard, and Jarrett Lee, a freshman who was redshirted last season, have been handling quarterback duties during spring practice.

“We are not ready to rely upon anybody at the quarterback spot,” Miles said. “We have three guys there. There will be a competition. Perrilloux has to compete.”

Miles said Perrilloux began weight room workouts and running on Wednesday.

Perrilloux was among the nation’s most coveted high school quarterback prospects when he joined the Tigers. He appeared to be fulfilling his promise in 2007, after redshirting in 2005 and playing sparingly as a third-stringer in 2006.

In May 2007 he was suspended from the team after he was cited for trying to illegally board a Baton Rouge riverboat casino by using his older brother’s driver’s license. He was reinstated in August.

In October, the week before the Alabama game, he was barred from practice for his role in a nightclub brawl.

I am guessing the other two QBs were not looking good.

scvols, I second that.

“I just want to make sure he’s doing the work in the classroom and taking care of business. If he does that, I think we could see him this spring.”

Well coach April 5th is next week so you better hope his business is squared away quickly. DA!

Isn't this Adam's alma mater?

You mean Miles refuses to punish starters in a meaningful way? This kid has been in trouble repeatedly... Of course they'd be in a pickle if they booted him now wouldn't they?

Yo Adams ... time to schedule another Finebaum interview .... Jack@ss.

SC has their suspended QB back before Fall practice and LSU( your Alma Mater JA) brings Perriloux back quickly from suspension, when backups don't pan out. Sabama, bring back the Armed Robber, and JA tell Paul "Daily Beacon" Finebaum how bad UT is again. Not counting Ky and Fla with usual suspects, Vandy just suspended one. Must be Fulmer's influence.

Its easy to reinstate the starting QB when the backup has ZERO game experience. Perilloux probably dates the coaches daughter as well

That figures. He won't miss ANY playing time.

Nah, Mr. No Credibility Adams will claim Miles called Fulmer and asked for advice.
Mr. N.C. Adams will further explain that call was taken after Spurrier & the USC disciplinary board were on a conference call to Fulmer about their QB.

And NO, we won't give it a rest. Not until Adams is gone!

Adams: LSU needs a change at the top

Posted by spam247buster on March 27, 2008 at 3:18 p.m. (Suggest removal)

John Adams is too widely read to ever get canned. Flooding the comment boards for his articles, and then commenting on him on all the other comment boards-- that ain't gonna convince KNS to get rid of him. Newspapers like having widespread readership, even when the readers are just angry.
However, there are a lot of good points being made in these comments about the JA double-standard, especially with his own alma mater.

The best way to get rid of the Adams is not to read his columns. I do not log onto his articles and I have limited the amount of times I log onto this site.

JackA$$, where is your outrage? Where is your righteous indignation? How much of this behavior can America stand? Why don't we know the juicy details of the QB's punishment? When will you call finebaum?

Inquiring minds wanna know!
