It took five playoff holes and a 75-minute weather delay, but a 7-foot birdie putt on No. 18 sealed victory for former University of Tennessee golfer David Skinns in the Hooters Tour First Tee Inverrary Classic in Lauderhill, Fla., on Sunday.
Skinns survived a close call on the fourth playoff hole when Hernan "Piri" Borja pushed a 4-footer for birdie that would have won the tournament for the Tour rookie.
"That kid made everything today," said Skinns. "We got new life when we thought for sure we were dead."
Skinns, the leader after rounds 2 and 3, finished with a 2-under-par 70 (272 total). Borja closed with a 5 under 67.
"It's the biggest win of my career. No doubt," said Skinns, who won $33,565.
Oak Ridge High School grad Scott Stallings (72) finished at 282 and former Vol Andrew Pratt (70) finished at 289.
