Heard the interview, said he was staying at UT due to the program being on the same level as Indiana. Great Interview

Bruce always is enjoyable in any venue. He's a solid UT guy.

Don't like the fact that he says he picked Kansas to win over his team....not sure that he was telling the truth or kidding, though.

Thanks Basketball_Jones for the info. I can't hear the interview on this computer at work. I'm glad I don't have to wait until I get home to find out he's staying.

KeepBruce: How do you pronounce that?

Like I posted last week - BP isn't going anywhere with or without a raise. What everybody is NOT paying attention to though is the fact that two assistants are very likely to be gone. THAT will present BP with some REAL challenges to make solid hires that can develop players AND recruit.

The_Vol- do you think if an assistant leaves he may go get Dave Odum?
Posted by vol1994 on March 31, 2008 at 4:54 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Yeah, I don't like the idea of coach BP stating
he picked Kansas beating them in final 4.
Most coaches don't admit completing March Madness bracket. If I was his player that would bother me but...
Interesting to hear that Indiana did not even approach him.

Obviously from the interview, Indiana didn't approach him because their informal inquiries told them he wasn't interested. If he had shown interest they would have come calling.

Indiana doesn't want to put out the bucks, like most of us thought they would. That's a good thing. I agree that we'll lose our great assistants and then new hires, etc. will make it interesting. I think his staff is one reason we did so well. They scout great, etc.

I am suprised to hear posters saying they don't like Pearl picking Kansas over the Vols. Why? After all of the remarks posted here last fall about Fulmer talking coachspeak, seems that Pearl's honesty would be refreshing. This team did many, many good things and have taken a step in the right direction, but if the 3's didn't fall, when other coaches found out how to beat our press coverage, it was clear we were missing a few players to really compete in the final four, especially if we had an off day. Good interview Coach Pearl.

THE_VOL - that is what I have been saying all along. Tony Jones is gone. I really hope not, but that is my feeling.

Good news! Scotty Hopson and his mother are coming to town for an official visit today. I hope he signs the LOI before he leaves town! Time to reload!

Anyone want to chip-in on a moving van for Pearl?
IU is so down, they don't expect to get the crap beat out of them in the Sweet 16...
Beating #1 Memphis was the pinnacle of the season, but now who's going to San Antonio and who has nothing else to do but chat with radio guys?

I have said it since Sampson got fired at Indiana, Bruce Pearl will be their coach. Just wait and see, the longer it goes, the chance gets higher and higher. He needs to quit talking and sign a long term deal. I for one am tired of dealing with this after every season. He will be gone, mark it down.

Jasvol-
There was an article on Volquest.com which is the Rivals site for UT. It is like $10/month for a subscription, otherwise you can only read the 1st couple sentences of the articles.
Bruce ain't leavin' anytime soon.
Andyt-
What are you saying, you want Buzz back? Bruce helped Lofton and JaJuan reach their fullest potential. One was looked over by the major programs coming out of high school and one was a walk on. Those two lead us to back to back Sweet 16s and a 31 win season. Imagine the possibilities with a team full of 4 and 5 stars and MacDonalds All-Americans!

what's up with the rumors some assistants are leaving? if so who & where? this is first I've heard of this. I would hope once Bruce gets a nice raise he'll go to bat for his assistants to get raises as well to keep his staff intact. Hamilton needs to step up & get it done ASAP so it doesn't affect recruiting, we need Hopson in a bad way.

Kdub: I have a really close friend in the D1 coaching world. He says that he has heard Forbes name thrown around for several head coaching jobs. Mostly mid major jobs, but Head Coaching jobs only. No lateral asst. moves.
As for those that are still questioning BP after this interview..calm down. The man said that he will be at Tennessee. It is every coach's inclination to listen to and entertain other offers, even if they have no real interest in that job. It gives them bargaining power and keeps doors open in the future should a change be necessary. In this case in particular, it was Pearl showing respect to people that he has prior relationships with.

winbigvols-
Since when does a long term deal keep a coach around?
For all of the bashing of the point guard play, which was lacking all year, what was the stat line for Jajuan Smith and Chris Lofton in the tournament?

Those of you that think BP and Indy are gonna get together are total morons. You probably also think oil and water is a good mixture. BP and Indy are so different and so far apart philosophically it isn't even funny. And BP isn't stupid enough to (1) step into the "Bobby Shadow" and (2) work for an idiot like Greenspan. Take some paranoia drugs folks!
