The 12th-ranked Tennessee men's track and field team capped its regular season Tuesday at Tom Black Track with 11 victories, 10 personal-best marks and seven additional season-best marks at the Smoky Mountain Twilight.
"We had a number of good accomplishments" head coach Bill Webb said. "We had many personal-best and season-best marks. Brenard (Wilson) was close to a (regional) qualifier and Matthieu (Pritchett) got one. It was a nice evening. Andrew Dawson did a nice job leading four personal bests in the mile. We will take a couple of days (off) and then get ready for SEC. Tonight, we helped ourselves get where we want to be for conference."
Dawson just missed the school record in the mile as he won the event in a personal-best time of 4 minutes, 00.51 seconds. His time ranks second on Tennessee's all-time performance list in the mile, trailing only Ken Barbee's 4:00.19 clocking. Dawson and Barbee are the only two athletes to run a sub-4:01 mile in school history.
Pritchett lowered his personal-best time and added a regional qualifier to win the 200 meters in 21.00. Freshman Joseph Berry won his third consecutive pole vault title and fourth this outdoor season by clearing 16 feet, 6 3/4 inches. Freshman Chris Rapp earned his first collegiate victory with a personal-best 9:27.12 in the steeplechase.
Four-time All-America Evander Wells won the 100 with his time of 10.47, while sophomore De'Lon Isom won the 110 hurdles in 13.97. Junior Nick Panezich won the shot put and the discus, and fellow junior Matthew Maloney topped the field in the javelin.
Wilson successfully defended his high jump title with his season-best clearance of 6-8 3/4. Freshman Michael Ayers earned his first victory as he led a 1-2-3 UT finish in the long jump. Ayers jumped to a personal-best mark of 23-0.
The Vols recorded two personal-best throws in the hammer, as Richard Wooten finished third at 208 feet, 4 inches and Maloney's mark of 185-0 placed eighth.
Wooten improved his standing in fifth on Tennessee's all-time performance list in the event, while Maloney improved to 10th.

Too bad Andrew is a senior. He'd have a great chance next year to be our first sub-four miler. Great job anyhow!
