Anthony Parker undergoes surgery on right knee

Second surgery in less than a month

Tennessee offensive lineman Anthony Parker underwent knee surgery for the second time in less than a month Tuesday, this time having an arthroscopic procedure performed on his right knee.

UT head athletic trainer Jason McVeigh said through a release that Parker is expected to make a full recovery by the time offseason workouts begin in June.

Despite pain in his knees, Parker participated in spring drills, working mostly at center while Josh McNeil (knee) was out.

Parker then underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee April 22, days after the Orange and White Game. Parker also underwent surgery on his left knee last December.

Still, despite frequent offseason surgeries, Parker has remained healthy on the football field, starting all 14 games last season at guard and was named All-SEC.

In 2006, he started 12 games, missing only the Outback Bowl after suffering a knee injury in the final game of the regular season against Kentucky. That injury required surgery last year and caused him to miss significant work last spring.

Drew Edwards covers University of Tennessee football. He may be reached at 865-342-6274.

bsweet, people have done studies on sports fans. You'd be amazed at how much stress the players put US through....but you are right, players at this level take a lot of abuse, especially linemen.

Chin up, Anthony. You'll be fine.

Stay the course, Parker.

BSweet, your right but that's what they get paid for.

MParker, but all that stress on fans is mental. And some need to have lobotomies to deal with it.

Just think about 250+ lbs force on those knees and then running putting x times that amount on them. My dad dropped 30 lbs once due to illness. Afterward he said that was the best his knees had felt in 40 years.

Man, he has had a ton of trouble with his knees. Hopefully it won't affect his mobility too much. Good luck and a speedy recovery!

Good luck in your recovery, Anthony!

I hope all the surguries don't affect his draft status next year. He's a hell of a lineman. It would be a shame if he missed out on the big bucks b/c he wore himself out playing for the Big Orange.

Good luck Anthony. We hope to see you at 100% for a long time to come.

We just can't compete with all these darn injuries!

I would say football, especially lineman, can behard on knees and ankles. I played a bit of high scool ball and still to this day thay ( knees ) give me troble. Good luck Anthony.

Heckuva lot of injuries that we have to deal with so far this year which means that we'll have to have some new faces that are probably still wet behind the ears. Hopefully they won't have a pucker factor when we put the pads on.

ibleedorange....
had that thought too. He might still have a pro career, tho. UT puts a lot of players in the NFL, even as free agents. They really do get 'coached up' here.

I've posted this comment a few times: I think Phil somewhat sacrifices the 'college game' in his efforts to ready his players for the next level.

The reason more free agents now than draft picks?? Well, we have a harder time getting top recruiting classes. Still, the kids know who puts players in the pros, and UT does it as good as any.

wd40:
I can vouch for that. I'm one of those who bounces back and forth between 190 and 240 or so. Trust me, 190 feels a whole lot better.

I have an eating disorder known as 'complete lack of willpower', or CLOW. This same appetite applies to hot women and cold beer.

My dream? to die in bed with a hot woman, cold beer, and philly cheese steak.

Hey, we all can at least dream!!!

Workin'-- "pucker factor", that cracked me up. Have you read "Playing for Pizza", by any chance?

They dont come tougher than A.P.
Except for myself of course.

Workin' - pucker factor comes into play when an opposing RB breaks up the middle for 7 afore a glove is laid on him.

Oh, and the Bama 7 yd outs on 3rd and three....

Those Forest Gump knee braces that O-lineman wear and confine themselves with these days has to have something to do with it. Shed those Anthony and you'll be surprised how good those knees feel.
