Tennessee Lady Vols freshman basketball player Vicki Baugh underwent successful surgery on her left knee at UT Medical Center on Tuesday night.

Baugh tore the anterior cruciate ligament on April 8 against Stanford in the NCAA championship game.

"Drs. Greg Mathien and Russell Betcher, UT team orthopaedists, performed surgery on Vicki's left knee this afternoon," said UT assistant athletics director for sports medicine Jenny Moshak. "The surgery addressed the anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction of her knee."

According to Moshak, Baugh will begin normal ACL rehabilitation of the knee immediately.

The 6-foot-4 Baugh made some key plays to help the Lady Vols beat Stanford. With a little more than seven minutes to play, Baugh's layup gave the Lady Vols a double-digit lead that they would not relinquish.

Baugh injured her knee on the play. On April 11, an MRI confirmed that Baugh had torn her ACL.

"As a freshman, Vicki played a significant role for our basketball team," said Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt. "Some of her key contributions came in the six games during our national championship run and in the SEC title game - things were really starting to come together for her and it's just so unfortunate that she suffered a torn ACL."

Baugh played in all 38 games and averaged 5.3 points and 4 rebounds in 13.1 minutes per contest.
