FLORENCE, S.C. - Former South Carolina basketball star Carlos Powell was arrested and jailed this past Saturday on weapons and alcohol charges.
Powell was charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol and with having an open container of beer or wine in a motor vehicle, according to the Florence County Sheriff's Office Web site.
Powell was booked Saturday night and released Sunday shortly before noon.
The 24-year-old Powell played with the Gamecocks from 2002-2005. He left as the school's sixth highest career scorer with 1,541 points. As a senior, Powell helped South Carolina to the first of two straight NIT titles.

Wouldn't it be nice if these guys would just try being A man instead of THE man for a change. Guns are for killing something to eat and cowards.

Well this is just the last straw. I have decided that Spurrier must go. I'll probably notify him today. Wait, I'm sorry, I thought I was John Adams there for a minute.

Is Slive the problem? I don't remember having so many problems before he became the commissioner. But I think we can depend on little john to dig it up.

What exactly is "unlawful" carrying of a pistol? Unlawful according to what? So our cars are no longer private property? Do citizens no longer have the right to posses arms under the constitution? He's not even been to trial either folks. Why was his vehicle searched in the first place? A taillight out? Did he really tip his Olde English 800 Tall Boy at the policeto get them on the trail?
The article uses the phrase "alcohol and weapons" charges. That could give the casual reader the idea that he's some sort of wild eyed terrorist loose on the streets. If the UT mascot with coonskin hat gets pulled over with an open container, then he'll be guilty of "unlawful" carrying of a long rifile too I suppose? Yet we cheer when he runs across the Jumbotron and Rocky Top tells us he gets his corn from a jar!
All this story tells us is an open container of alcohol. Was he drunk while driving? A lot more questions than answers are here.
I fear a sensationalist media, and police state far more than an ex-BBall players.
Oh yeah, BTW. Hey Adams, the fish always rots from the head first. It must be USCs B-ball coach that is the problem. Get to work.
