Vols in 15th place in NCAA regional golf

Both Charlie Ford and Tennessee slipped on the leaderboard Friday in round two of the NCAA Central Regional golf tournament in Columbus, Ohio.

Playing Ohio State University’s Scarlet Course, the Vols left themselves with a tough move to make today in order to qualify for the NCAA championships later this month.

The Vols followed Thursday’s 17-over-par round with a 16-over-par effort Friday. At 33 over, they are in 15th place. Only the top 10 teams advance. UT’s 601 total is four strokes behind the teams tied for 10th.

Ford, meanwhile, absorbed a triple-bogey 7 on No. 14 and finished at 4-over 75 for the day.

After Thursday’s 1-under round, Ford was tied for second place. Now, he’s at 145 and in a six-way tie for eighth place.

Kevin Tway of Oklahoma State took over the lead at 139.

David Holmes went from UT’s worst round on Thursday, 82, to its best on Friday, 74.

Philip Pettitt matched Ford’s 75. Chris Paisley and Cameron Lawrence each shot a 76.
