Virginia Tech's Misty Hall, the first batter after a 56-minute rain delay, hit a two-out, two-run home run to give the Hokies a 2-1 lead over Tennessee in the top of the fourth inning in the second and decisive game of the NCAA regional at Lee Softball Stadium.
The Lady Vols scored off three-time ACC pitcher of the year Angela Tincher for a 1-0 lead in the first inning when SEC player of the year Tonya Callahan dropped down a bunt to score Lillian Hammond from third.
Hammond led the game off with a slap shot up the middle that Tincher threw wild to first on, allowing Hammond to go to second.
Hammond went to third on a wild pitch.
Megan Rhodes is on the mound for UT and has allowed just one hit, that coming with one out in the fourth to Erin Ota.
The winner of this game advances to play a best-of-three series against Michigan in Ann Arbor next weekend, with a trip to the Women’s College World Series on the line.
The Lady Vols forced the second game by beating Virginia Tech, 7-1, earlier Sunday.
