Tennessee freshman J.P. Smith is still standing in the NCAA Individual Tennis Championships at Tulsa, Okla.
Smith defeated Southern Cal's Kaes Van't Hof 6-3, 6-1 in the second round and will face East Tennessee State's Enrique Olivares today.
Smith is 30-10 this season and 14-8 against ranked opponents.
His run to the third round is the deepest a Vol has advanced in singles since Peter Handoyo did so in 2001.
Tennessee teammate Kaden Hensel didn't fare as well, falling to Georgia's Travis Helgeson, 6-2, 6-7, 7-5.
He finished the season 14-11. The senior ended his UT career with 66 singles and 85 doubles victories.
In doubles, Hensel and Smith were eliminated by Ohio State's Drew Eberly and Justin Kronauge 6-1, 6-7, 6-7. The duo finish 23-6.
Women's Tennis: The Lady Vols doubles team of Caitlin Whoriskey and Zsofia Zubor lost in the first round against Southern Cal's Amanda Fink and Gabriela Niculescu 7-6, 3-6, 6-2.
"Although it's not quite the way we would have liked for our season to end, I am extremely proud of how both Caitlin and Zsofia played this year," UT co-head coach Mike Patrick said.
Zubor and Whoriskey have two years of eligibility remaining.
