Vols vs. UAB to be televised at 12:30 p.m.

Tennessee’s home opener against UAB on Sept. 13 will be televised by Raycom on WVLT, sources confirmed Friday at the SEC meetings in Destin, Fla.

The game is set for a 12:30 p.m. kickoff, after being scheduled for 7 p.m.

Additionally, Raycom also will broadcast Hawaii at Florida on Aug. 30 and Southern Miss at Auburn on Sept. 6. Both games kick off at 12:30 p.m.

Tennessee’s season-opening game at UCLA on Sept. 1 will be televised nationally on ESPN at 8.

A week after UAB, the Vols will host Florida in both teams’ SEC openers. That game likely will be picked up by CBS.

Other possible national television dates for the Vols include trips to Auburn (Sept. 27) and Georgia (Oct. 11) and Alabama (Oct. 25).

So when does word come out UT/Florida will be dropped to ESPN when CBS picks up LSU/Auburn that afternoon?

BADGES0413 writes:

I hope FLA is a night game, would rather play in cooler weather. Plus the fans are deep into the hooch by then and can be louder at night. We need all the helpe we can get against Tebow the Moil.

WorkinLikeHeck writes:

Hmmm...UAB gets same television status (Raycom/LF/JPO) as the Alabama game. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

BADGES0413 writes:

HMMM, UAB in early Sept at Noon. Sounds like a Pilsner and Plasma game to me. My light bill be sky high that month, so I will save my nickels for the Flordia game.

jgvol8 writes:

We have better luck against UF at night. Last time we beat them in 2004 was a night game.

jgvol8 writes:

And in 1998

tigervol9802 writes:

And we lost in 91, 93, 99, 05, and 06 at night.

But we did win in 1990!

So....3-5 against them at night.

BADGES0413 writes:

And in 2001.

BADGES0413 writes:

4 and 5 Tiger if you count 2001 at Florida. Or did that game just end at night? It was December, I just remember it being dark when the game was over.

tigervol9802 writes:

I think it was a 4:30 kickoff.

WorkinLikeHeck writes:

This is good news....we must be saving our PPV games for later in the season.

BADGES0413 writes:

Im guessing Norhtern Illinois and maybe the Cowpokes will be the only PPV. Two more Pilsner and Plasma games.

Silent_Fulmer writes:

WOW - were back to a bigtime program if were back on Regional TV!

volboy81#211803 writes:

CBS has become fascinated with the SEC West. They'll choose LSU-AUBURN. Thats ok. Id rather the UT-FL game be at night too.

BADGES0413 writes:

Probably UAB's only exposure for this year.

Silent_Fulmer writes:

UH-OH, 12:30 kickoff means 50% of students will show for this one at best now that there buying tickets. OOOPPS!

BADGES0413 writes:

Can't blame the students, will be in the low 100's around noon in early Sept.

vol_in_lsu_land writes:

Careful....if you think about it, the fact that UAB is getting equal television status as the Bama game is more of an indictment against Alabama ball than anything else.

BAD! This kills the tailgating! I hate the early starts.

BADGES0413 writes:

Vol In KY, you ever played Hi Bob while watching the old Bob Newhart show?

WorkinLikeHeck writes:

vollsufan....that's a nice theory and all but too bad we're the constant in both equations.

NLW1 writes:

Could be an SEC doubleheader that day!

mjohnsonvols writes:

don't really care what time or what channel I will be there to see the vols play. You guys make a big deal out of nothing. I think if we loose the game then you can talk bad but unitl that day comes who gives a phooey what channel we play on.

CBS will have a double dose on the day of the Florida game. We will be 3:30 and LSU/Auburn will probably be the primetime game. Just like they did with GA/TN and LSU/FLA last year.

FishTacos writes:

It doesn't seem too long ago that the Vols early season games against schools like UAB were always on ESPN or ESPN 2. That has changed due to the incosistancy that Phillip's bunch plays with year in and year out. Great September 13, 12:30 p.m. kickoff. I believe I will spare myself of the heatstroke and stay home. 12:30 Kickoff in early September?? All about the $$$.

pdhuff#552644 writes:

workin, 3:36 sssshhh on the PPV stuff. Maybe they'll forget and I won't have to keep walking the ditches picking up the Bud Lite cans.

After we smash UCLA, they should look on us more favorably.

burntorangeVOLffle writes:

Gee, how low this program has sunk when the UAB game isn't picked up by CBS or ESPN.

Seriously, even if we were pre season #1 the chances of this game getting picked up for a national broadcast are slim to none.

thesavageorange writes:

If we go out to UCLA and put a whipping on UCLA(should), come home and pound UAB say 41-7 or so, and play a very close competitive game w/ UF(win or lose) the TV thing will take care of itself. If we beat Florida we will squeeze in the top 10 and will be prime time draws for UGA and Auburn.

I have no problem not having to hear Tim Brando and Vern Lunquiest kiss Tebow @ss for 4 hours.

LadyVolsEighTimes writes:

UAB was no cake walk the last time around. They had one helluva QB that they don't now, but they played the Vols alot tighter than I wanted to see.

Playing UCLA to open on National TV is great, but I hate we don't have that off week ahead of Florida.

burntorangeVOLffle writes:

Off week before FL has never helped. Won't be missed.

Shouldn't this be a round ball game?

Volalumnus, your fearless prediction just gave me an idea. Anyone read Fox Sports Fearless Predictions? The format is:

Players to watch:

Tennessee will win if...

UF will win if...

What will happen:

Fearless Prediction:

UF 14
Tennessee 31

Like the idea? I will post the format a week before each game. Then cut and paste it onto the block labelled Your Turn, and predict away. WorkinLike Heck, maybe you can impress us with your knowledge of college football. Or should your handle be, FakingItLikeHeck? (Just kidding)

yeah but we were down 21-14 at the half. fire everyone after this game. how embarrassin. the only reason we won is because the startin qb and rb got hurt.

pdhuff#552644 writes:

dvols- you must turn to sjt18 for some faith. We'll be back from the coast fresh from a thrashing of UCLA and the men will be full of p##s and vinegar.

We'll be full of kookade and glazed and ready, I tell you, ready!

VOLS85 writes:

You people need some perspective...We are playing UAB. UAB is not a premier team, not even in their own conference (They went 2-10 last year, fyi).

Florida is playing their first home game against a team that went to a BCS bowl last year and they are playing on raycom...

Silent, Workin...would you say that Florida's program is on the decline? Would you blame Meyer because their game isn't nationally televised? Get the stick out of your back ends and realize that you are proving nothing.

Not all games can be nationally televised, and if you can tell me which season that has happened here at UT then you get a cookie.

Go vols and I'll be at UCLA Sept. 1 (you know, that game that is NATIONALLY TELEVISED, but you don't like giving credit to Fulmer for that one, for that would be a sin)

WorkinLikeHeck writes:

yeah when Florida plays Bama it's usually on LF/JPO/Raycom.

"Additionally, Raycom also will broadcast Hawaii at Florida on Aug. 30"

The last time we played UAB it was also the home opener at 12:30 back in 05. Hopefully this season will not turn out like that one.

FishTacos writes:

None of you "Vol" fans can remember when the Vols were nationally televised against lowly opponents at the start of the year? Well here you go. 2000 season opener vs. Southern Miss was on ESPN. That same year the Memphis game was on Fox. 2002 UT season opener vs. Wyoming was on ESPN 2. 2003 the Vols first two games against Fresno State and Marshall were both televised on ESPN 2. 2004 season opener UT vs. UNLV was televised on ESPN. So don't tell me that ESPN is still willing to televise the VOLS first or second game of the year against the Wyomings of the world. ESPN must think we have hit the shi*s too. They will no longer televise lower level teams vs. Tennessee because they know that the Tennessee football program has become irrelevant nationally.

tigervol9802 writes:

Amazing what googleing something can come up with.

Don't know how valid this site is, but it is the most comprehensive summary I have seen so far.

Looks like UT/UF will be the CBS game at 3:30 and the CBS DH will be the same day as last season.

The other note, if this is right....UT/Bama is looking at ESPN broadcast at best. UGA/LSU seems to be the big game that week....not that I can argue with that.

VolstuckinKY, the 4:05 post gets my nomination for Post of the Year.

It gave me a couple of ideas for here. The Moron Challenge: any time Workin' calls someone a moron, we all take a shot and the PDHuff Challenge: any time SJT18 calls out PDHuff for being a cynic, we all take a shot. Should all be drunk by lunch time on most days.

Reading about this game against UAB makes me queasy. I can't forget being in the end zone and watching Harrell of all people make an interception to seal the deal against an "ahem" quality CUSA opponent.

This is a good report about the UAB team coming up this year:

The LSU v. Auburn game will be at 3:30 on CBS followed by Florida v. Tenn at 8:00 p.m. on CBS

VOLS85 writes:

hit the shi*s...as in going to the sec championship game(Florida and Georgia didn't get that opportunity)...remember, we did it in 2004 as well, when we had our first home game televised nationally. There are going to be games that are picked up and there are going to be games that are relegated to regional coverage. Ask any SEC team, they have to deal with it too. The question is, are florida fans b*tching and moaning that the hawaii game is on raycom? I don't think they care that much...some of you people are just looking for a way to show that this program has gone down the tank, and it takes small things to trigger you...3 of our games in conference were regionally televised in 2004, and one game (LA Lafayette) was not even televised.

wah wah wah
