you get scooped by ESPN and you try make that up with this. At least give the man time to make the announcement!

Let Chavis have a shot but get rid of whatever you call clawson's offense.

Congratulations.... This is going to be a mess!

You left out Todd Graham at Tulsa. Would fit like a glove.

Alabaster_Jones writes:

I really like Mike Leach and I also like Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State. I mean those guys can coach and they can recruit. If you can bring players to Texas Tech and Okie St you can bring them to Knoxville. Many Vol fans will talk about Gundy's press conference last year but he was standing up for his players and I respect that. We've had 16 years of "Dad-gummits" and "Magic dust" this program needs someone to light a fire in the program not some good ole boy who says yes ma'am and yes sir.

Why don't we go after the big guns? Like Pete Carroll (Money talks)

CharlotteVol writes:

Peterson is my pick. Imagine what he can do with our players, seeing what he gets out of the guys he can recruit to Boise

Alabaster_Jones writes:

I like Graham as well, that offense along with Leach's offense would be a 180 degree change to what we've seen for the last 100 years.

JeepJeep writes:

Bill Cowher!!!!

mbible1utk#324980 writes:

If we can keep John Chavis, I like Mike Leach best. Our offense needs to run a system that practically no one else runs.... too many teams run a pro-style offense, so it's not hard to figure out how to stop it. The only way a pro-style offense succeeds is if it has players that are clearly more athletic than the ones they are going up against, and we're losing that edge to people like Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Mark Richt, and Les Miles. But if we run a system that teams will only see once a year, they don't get the time to figure it out. Now... Leach won't succeed without a good defensive coordinator, and Chavis might not be perfect, but I think he gives us a chance to win most games (so long as we have a head coach who will tell him not to go into a prevent defense before the last minute of the game). If we are going to lose Chavis too, I think Lane Kiffin becomes the best option. Perhaps he could bring in his dad to run the defense for a few years and groom a successor.

Course I like Pul Johnson at GT. Heard Ryan Karl on 104.5 and he said there were mixed reactions from the Vol players, past and present he knew.

He personally was sad, but he knew its a tough job.

beavbullvol writes:

My top 5 (not that anybody cares)

1. Leach- Texas Tech (yes I'm on the bandwagon)

2. Kelly- Cincinnati (remind me again, where did Pearl come from?)

3. Kippy Brown- currently NFL assistant/UT ties

4. Lane Kiffin- Young

5. Pete Carroll- (we can dream can't we?)

Look out for the name Tim Brewster from Minnesota.

As an Alumni I would rather go 0-11 every year than hire Steve Spurrier. Even though we are in the same Fraternity

NO COWHER...NO NFL coach..get it out of your heads...not happening

Petersen, Muschamp, and many other qualified coaches

Here are the Main targets of the UT search

1)Pete Carroll
2)Gary Patterson
3)Gary Pinkle
4)Butch Davis
5)Steve Spurrior

And last but not least - Bill Cower, who lives in the Durham area.

We now the University Jet was in Durham last week.........maybe Cutcliff is being called home.

The point is, nobody really knows. It is clear that we need a motivational coach with a host of assistants that can recruit in the states of Florida and Texas.

LebanonVol writes:

Spurrier's agent (Jimmy Sexton) has been contacted by the University. No comment from Spurrier at this time.

blitzshoot writes:

Let Steve Spurrier come home and finish at UT. It wuold be great to see him where he always belonged.
UT lost him as a player, don't lose him as a coach.
He could do much more at UT than at SC.
What fun would that be....

TnKyFlAlGaScLaAkMi writes:

Muschamp hasn't stopped anybody. Why the h-e-double hockey sticks would we want him? If we get him, Fulmer will look like the 2nd coming of Chuck Noll.

That said, I like Butch Davis since he can recruit against the miles-myers-sabine 3-headed monster.

OrangeAndWhite4Life writes:

Personally I have several candidates that I would like to see as the next head coach at UT. Will list them in no particular order. Am leaving Butch Davis off the list, as I do not see him leaving UNC.

Brian Kelly (Cincinnati)
Chris Petersen (Boise St)
Will Muschamp (Texas)
Todd Graham (Tulsa)
Derek Dooley (LA Tech)
Pat Hill (Fresno St)
Gary Patterson (TCU)

Could be wrong, but my gut feeling tells me UT will stay within the college ranks. That is the reason I left off Gruden and Cowher as well.

GO Vols !!

Kyle Whittingham from Utah, with Trooper Taylor as OC and Al Wilson as DC.

This is a travisty. I can't believe were even talking about this. I say to HELL With the football program. What coach in his right mind would want to come here! I mean Fulmer wins 75% of his games, gives 30 something years to the program... and this! Better look for a high school coach. Any top college coach should turn away now! Any coach that follows what Coach Fulmer and his family has had to endure. Better have very thick skin and win 85% of their games or your gone! This is BULL #@*#!

Guys Brian Kelly is ILL....they would have a great chance at grabbing him.

Pete Carroll? Really? No love for UT with the NCAA, so we would be on probation until the 2090
season!

I've Said all year that we need to look at Leach. But with that BIG win over Texas it's going to cost $$$. I also think that we should talk to South Florida HC Jim L. He has built that program from the ground up.(literally)
He is ranked in the top 25 year after year with leftover GATOR AND FL. STATE talent. He has strong ties to south Florida recruits. Worth a look.

Colliervol writes:

Wizardofvolz @ 2:09 pm: You must not have been watching the same team we all have since 2005. But we'll let that go.

I'm thinking Steve Spurrier for a few years with Will Muschamp as defensive coordinator and coach-in-waiting. As long as we're dreaming.

How about George Qurales from Maryville. He's on the verge of winning 75 in a row + 5 straight State Titles and thats with an inexperienced QB

I think we should go after Phil Fulmer. Any coach who comes here will still have to face Ricth, Meyer, Saban, et al, but if he decides to coach some where else, I will cheer for that team. Call me a "Phil lover" if you will, but I think the guy is a winner through and through. It's a sad day for me, but I guess all good things must eventually come to an end. Take their money and run coach, and let the next coach deal with some of these 2nd class vol fans.

steven.d.robbins#641408 writes:

Lane Kiffin!! Just consider him as OC at USC-- two quarterbacks to reach 3,000 yds in a season, along with two running backs and two receivers to each make over 1,000 yds per season!! As Recruiting Coordinator, #1 classes 3 years in a row. As youngest-ever Oakland head coach, stood his ground agains the tyrant Al Davis and got fired. But note, that Mike Shananan (HC at Denver Broncos) had the same thing happen to him earlier in his career. This fan and alumni votes for Kiffin!!!!

volnsc writes:

Butch Davis, Mike Leach, and (drum roll), Houston Nutt. Ole Miss was very creative in whupping up on Auburn Saturday. Ole Miss can't have that much talent but Houston has always got great results out of what he had to work with.

There can only be one person to lead us back to a championship. Peyton could not lead us to a championship. I say we choose the greatest quarterback in the history of college football to lead the VOLS!!! Tee Martin for our next Head Coach!

Volsfan75 writes:

"5. Kyle Whittingham has a fast-paced style at Utah. His team is extremely balanced and his QB Johnson, is just like Tajh Boyd. With his offense meshing with Clawson's I could see a dynamic team."

UTfan4life, Whittingham was the defensive coordinatoor for Utah.

slsmithsr#269458 writes:

Jumping on the "Spread Offense " bandwagon could be a big mistake. You better be able to line up in a pro style the majority of the time. The next coach better have the good sense to hire a coordinator that knows how to develope a qb underneath too.
With that said...who has shown that they know how to choose a staff?

OldNumber7 writes:

None of the above (except maybe Mike Leach), but for heavens sake, if Tennessee starts grabbing at straws it will be a long road. There are plenty of coaches with proven head coaching records doing a lot with very little. Be selective, only pick 1A coaches, and if you don't find what you want, give the existing coaches a 1 year deal and keep looking.

longtimefan writes:

I dont hate the ol' ball coach. He is one of the reasons the conference is as tough as it is today. I wouldnt mind seeing him in Knoxville. Things sure would be interesting. And if they cant do better than Cutcliff, Please cancel the news conference and forget about it.

thesavageorange writes:

Don't know if you guys would like it or not , but I think MH has also contacted Mike Gundy's agent.
